Being on a budget and always looking I like to get as much info as I can. So I ask you guys since I have an SKS and a MAK 90 what size grain would be good to shoot and reload. I am looking at the Lee molds since its one I could afford. Any advice would help me in deciding and knowing what to get. For me I shoot just to plink and not often is range an issue it would be if I could reload, cast and get both out of a certain weight. Also if you have a good mold for a good price for sale let me know also. Looking for more info than anything since I do not want to invest in something that wont work.... Thanks Guys

C312-155 is a very good mould for the AK/SKS. Suggest WWs + 2% tin or #2 alloy. Size at .312 and lube well. Crimp on GCs. Load over 24 - 27 gr H4895. 27 gr H4895 will run at 1850 fps or so out of the SKS with very good accuracy.

Slug your bores - I've seen some pretty large bores on Comblock stuff.

I do like the C312-155-2R mold that Ed Harris designed for LEE you can get same style
from NEI and there is a group buy with NOE if you want more cavities.

I like it in my Mauser and SKS over either 1680 or 5744 powders.

Both fellers above have some good advice posted.

There is also a thread on "practical dope" regarding this cartridge that is worth looking up.

Personally I have had good luck with RE-7 in that caliber.

I wish that Lee would make a 6-cav version of that mold.

Search for "beagling". I've done it on mine with good results.

I have a 6 cavity NEi #72 that was the original Harris bullet and the Lee.(Lee took some "artistic license" and pointed the nose a bit more but its still a good one) Both have shot well in the SKS with the loads mentioned by Larry and also 4198.it also shoots well in my Saiga .308 sized to .310 with 30g of surplus 4895.

Thanks Guys I am going to keep this post and look back on it. Also I know its best to run a gas check on this but is that the way most of you would always go. I ask because I see a few molds without them..... Thanks

I use a Lee 309120 and after some Beagle advice on here with Ali tape they drop at .314.
Just about to try them in .303

I run that boolit in my 300 blk and it's quite a good shooter.

Too long by .010 for a 6 cavity I already asked them.

In the 7.62 x 54 the lee(or NEI) bullet sans GC with 11g of trail Boss shoots pretty good at 100 yards.

these are typical consecutive groups out of a $85 so so bore Russian 91-30 and 6X scope. The bullet with GC shoot about 1/2" smaller groups.

Target the 12" Steel Gong - distance 305 lazered yards
LEE Boolit over 1680
out of 10 rounds fired 8 hits were heard - and I have a witness.

If they lost 0.01" off the nose, I'd still be happy with it.

Thats a darn good bullet for sure.Ed's buddy dubbed it the "little fat .....er"If it fits the throat of a 30 caliber rifle it seems to shoot about as good as any.

So Jailer what are you sizing it down to for the 300 blackout. I ask because one day id like to run the 300 blackout so it looks like I can add this mold as a must for a lot of calibers. Just wish now I would of not sold my SVT in 7.62x54 but I made damb good money on it.....

woody13 I size mine to .310 and have had great luck with just plain air cooled wheel weights running them a little over 1800 FPS. They are extremely accurate in my 300 blk bolt gun. Still working on a load for the AR that will cycle reliably.

excess650 the gunsite scout is the next gun that will see this boolit to see how it performs in that. I may water drop a few to see if I can push them a little faster in the 308.

I shoot the 'conventional' version (non-TL) in 7.65 Argie, 7.62x54R (both Russian and Finn) and, sized down to .310, in 7.5x55 Swiss with good performance in all three. Don't currently load for the 7.62x39 but, if I were, I believe I start with about 16 gr of 2400 or, maybe, 17.5 gr of AA1680 and work up from there. Doubt either of those loads will cycle an SKS but should be good starting points.
