I have a couple of 41 mag revolvers a S&W 657 and a Ruger Blackhawk
And I have a new unused 4 Cav 410610 boolit mould..
This is a gas check mold.. Does anyone make 41 gas checks anymore?
or does anyone make a Check maker for the 41
and can it be shot with out a gas check?

Thanks
Jeff

i use 4 grs of titegroup without the gas check in my black hawk.
it works fairly well and is on par with a heavy 38 special load.
i shot a lot of bunny's with it untill i got the lyman button nosed plain based wadcutter mold.
i have thought about having the gas check cut out of my 610 and maybe having the base milled down a titch for about 225 grs.

You can turn down or lap out the gas check portion, but I would probably save it (especially since it is a 4-banger) for GC bullets and then buy a MP Mould Keith .411 4 banger brass mold. That is what I did and it throws about 223 gr with WW. I have about 900 gas checks in .41 left and when they are gone I will probably just cry. I save them for really hot 300-mp loads that are "scary accurate" and "scary powerful". If you want to turn the GC out of the mold, start by turning out only two of them and keeping two GC'ed so you have options for the future. Yes you are only casting two at a time, but you still have the GC option. Once you turn that out, it will be pretty hard to put it back.

So think I'm probably going to leave the 410610 alone. been looking around and saw where others are using 416 rifle gas checks on there 41 mag gas check boolets.

the 610 wants the lyman thin checks.
gator makes three different 41 cal checks.

I have about 1500 gas checks left for the 41, 500 are old Lyman checks (20+ years) and the others are recently purchased hornady. When I run out I will likely buy a gas checkmaker die from Pat Marlins, a vendor on this site. He just started making checkmaker dies in .41. I already have two of his dies and am eyeing a few more.
