I've just purchased a Bounty Hunter SAA clone in .44 magnum, but will be shooting mostly .44 special. I've been casting 240 grain Lee TL430-240SWC. I'm looking for plinking and target loads. I have Unique, Bullseye, Red Dot and Trail Boss powders.

I'm looking for some mid-range loads with just enough punch to be accurate and fun, but not hot enough to be a chore to shoot.

7.0gr Titegroup. Note that is is a "+P" load, so suitable only for .44 Magnum guns, not the Charter Arms Bulldog in .44 Special!

Bullseye with that bullet; 5 gr in SPL cases, 6 gr in Magnum cases. I size my TL240s at .430 and lube with BAC. Excellent accuracy with both loads out of all 4 of my .44 Magnum handguns a atypical 44 SPL velocities.

I use 7.4 grains of Unique in 44 Special. Shoots soft and really accurate in a Blackhawk flattop.

You didn't list American Select under your powders, but 6.0 is just a fabulous load in .44 Special. It's the most accurate load in my Ruger/Lipsey Flattop with ANY bullet, cast or jacketed, from 180 to 240 grains. With that exact bullet, I get 897 fps, an SD of 8 and 2" groups at 25 yards.

AmSel is right between Red and Green Dot in burn rate (a VERY narrow slot) so try your Red at 6.0 and see. I tested Red and Green as well, but AmSel topped them both.

I have been using 8 grain trail boss for every day load.

Unique, 7.5 grs in special cases, 8.5 in mag cases. Both shoot great, low recoil and shoot about the same velocity and point of aim.

In a Magnum case, and a magnum gun, use 6.5 gr Red Dot for about 1000 fps.

Right! The wall thickness on the chambers of the Bulldog (at least, mine) is only .052, not a revolver to be hot rodded.
