Went to the scrap yard to sell some aluminum cans and scrap cartridge brass. I was disappointed in the price for the cartridge brass as it was $0.64/lb. But I asked if they had any lead they would sell and they let me dig through their pile. I found a linotype ingot and I got 19 pounds for $6. So even though I didn't get as much as I liked for my scrap cartridge brass, I came out alright on the lino!

I've only seen it once in it's "native state" and got lucky--it was literally a "line o' type". A heavy lead block with text cast into it. Sometimes the printers would cast linotype into "pigs", but if you find something heavy with print on it, buy it!

Some places screw you on cartridge brass since they know many places won't take it.
