A shop local to me has one of the Marlin 94's with a straight stock in .44 mag. probably 80%+ condition and a very smooth action. What would a fair price be for the gun?

Depends on when it was made, part of the country etc etc. Bat probably somewhere around $450-$500. Maybe even a little less. the older ones are probably a better buy than the ones made during the last 4 years or so when Marlin was going through the transition to remlin. Marlin, mdl 94 44 mags are a more common caliber.

Last year I sold a model 336 chambered in forty-four , if I remember right I got five hundred bucks for it . Condition was about ninety-seven percent or so .

The local shop was asking $479 or so for one manufactured in the late seventies with some wear on it.

I bought a Marlin 1894 with the safety in about 95% condition in 44 Magnum, of all places Gander Mountain for 325.00 last year.

I haven't seen a used 1894 MARLIN in 357 or 44 in a gun shop rack in years. With the decline of quality and availability after the sale and re-location, the price of used guns is ridiculous.

There are guns on gunbroker.com, BUT you have to figure shipping cost...about $30....and transfer fee....$25 in my area. IF you buy local, sales tax is 8%. There ain't no breaks for the consumer!

IF I could find a gun like you describe for $400-to-450 and tax locally, I'd probably buy it. You MIGHT find a bargain, but you might not. I'd rather have a gun in the safe than another $50 in my wallet.

I've been trying to sell a 2006 1894 in .44 mag with a 4x Bushnell on it for about 6months now. It's in NRA excellent condition. I'm asking $575. I bought it new. I've tried every cast boolit in .44 caliber that I own from 173g Nei to a 265g Ranch Dog and can't get it to give me the accuracy I'd like, which is 3 to 4" at 100 yds. I'm gonna have it at a table at the next gun show in Spokane. So.....to answer your original question, I guess it's not worth $575!!

Bought mine about 10-12 years ago at (gasp!) Gander Mtn for $250 plus 5% tax. Pre safety and I think its about 90%. Quite acceptable accuracy especially with RCBS 240 grain GC boolit. 4X Simmons scope. Accurate with any boolit I've fed through it. BTW, microgroove rifling.

Thanks guys, the one at the local shop is a micro-groove pre-safety gun. I don't shoot a lot of .44 mag, but I was thinking it might make a pretty good woods gun. The local shop is asking $450, I'll see if it's still available next pay-check, and try to talk them down to $400 plus tax...

$400 will be a good deal, even 450 is not out of line.

in 2009 i bought a very clean '81 1894 44 mag for $425, and last winter i bought a '79 1894c .357 on GB for $430. there are more 44's out there, cause marlin made them for ten year's before the 1894c come out.
