View Full Version : Dumped Bullplate

I wasn't sure where to put this but since it involves molds in general I thought I'd put it here. Right before a casting session a few days back I managed to knock over a whole bottle of Bullplate with just a cap full left in the bottle. I didn't say oh, shucks, either.:???:

I can't recall but it seems it's either hard to get anymore or not at all. If the latter, what is an attractive replacement?

Any fully-synthetic two-cycle injector oil will do.

I've got plenty of that with all the wonderful yard tools around here-thanks. I thought it was some special brew known to but a few.

I keep mine in those little needle tip bottles make for oiling. Pretty hard to spill that way. I learned the same way you did. Can't actually say for sure just what it is, though, the Bullplate that is.. enjoy Mike

Here's my simple and non-patented solution

I remind people when they spill it ( and they will), wipe it up with a shop rag, and store the rag in a baggie. Just use the rag to apply the lube.

I've never spilled my Bullplate 'cause I PUT THE TOP BACK ON IT WHEN I'M DONE.

I pulled an Inspector Clouseau. I had my mold in my left hand and for some reason had the Bullplate in the same hand. I bent over to pick something off the floor and tipped the mold and Bullplate and it went all over the floor. Peter Sellers would have been proud.

Thanks-I still have another bottle and a cupful of the one I poured out. It'll last me for a while.

I posted a fix for that problem about two or three years ago. I see that 462 uses a small version of it. I prefer to use a piece of 2x6 about 4 inches long. It has never been tipped over regardless of how clumsy I become.
I prefer to make my hole in the 2x6 just a little snug so that the bottle has some fricton type of fit. I can turn mine on it's side and the bottle remains in it's place. Later Fairshake

Fill an empty eye drop bottle from your large bottle. Place the large bottle safely in storage. Work from the eye drop bottle.

I put mine in a bottle with a half turn twist that drops a ball closure down just enough for a drop when squeezed. When I knock it over, it won't leak but a drop before I set 'er up again.

I would prefer a tighter fit, too, but don't have a smaller diameter hole saw.

What ever happened to Bullshop? Last I read he was all P.O.ed about something and said he was outa here.
I never understood this, because his was one of the best selling, gotta have it, casting do-dads that has ever been devised on cast boolits.
Seems like it would be a booming business, easy to tip over bottles notwithstanding.;)
I hope he comes back with his lube when he gets moved, or whatever he was doing. I have tried several recommended replacements, but nothing beats original Bullplate. (yeah, mine is soaked up in a rag inside a tupperware container).
Hi my name's Tim, I'm a caster that doesn't put the lid back on containers.[smilie=l:

My memory is vague, but I seem to recall hearing this mentioned a few times over the last year or so.

I've bought enough NOE molds with the little sample of Bullplate that I have several years supply. If those little bottles fall over nothing runs out before I pick it up.

I've been using Stihl's version of the full synthetic. Looks smells and works every bit as good

I've tried Stihl Ultra HP too and it doesn't hold up to really hot molds as well as Bull Plate (Amsoil Saber Professional). The former can be used to good effect, you just need to apply it more often.

Are you saying AMSoil actually is Bullplate?

Not trying to change your mind but I have used Randy Rats Zip Lube and it works great, it is cheap too.

Doesn't sound quite right judging by the flashpoint

Burning off and leaving a dry lubricating film is one of its desirable properties. 2-cycle oil is design to burn and lubricate at the same time.

This product has been available on eBay since shortly before Dan closed the Bullshop.
At least one of our members bought some to try, and he said it is 'as good' as Dan's.

I think many of us have dumped Bullplate out of that white bottle! I purchased a couple of those small, clear plastic 2 oz., military gun lubricant bottles (can get them at most army/navy stores), for about 50 cents apiece. They have a dropper-top on them so the lube cannot spill. Just squeeze a couple drops on a Q-tip to apply it. Works great.

NOE moulds come with a small, capped container of Bullplate. Just refill the container. You don't need to have much Bullplate around your casting area because you use so little each time.
