Can't say as I've ever seen or heard of platinum nipples. I doubt if I could afford them anyway, with platinum selling for over $1500 an ounce!

The Beryllium nipples are almost as good. Pedersoli makes them for their Gibbs rifles and they are like 3 for $15. They won't last as long as the platinum lined ones but you can get 10 of them for the same price and 10 will definitely out last the Platinum. There is also a SS one that will last as long but for $15 a piece, but they are scarcer than rocking horse manure.

The way I see it: nipples belong on a woman's chest, not on a man's rifle...

On what I consider to be the last development of the traditional muzzle loading rifle in the period of from 1860 to about 1870 the long range English target rifle came into being. These rifles were bullet guns that shot bullets of from 5 to 600 grains weight from .451 bores with powder charges of up to about 100 grains of the powders of that time and were shot in competition at Wimbledon to distances out to 1100 yds. accurately.
It was found that the percussion nipple that was lined with platinum would not erode from the larger powder charges and higher pressures that developed from these rifles and with care would last the lifetime of the gun. A nipple that erode's even a very small amount at these longer distances and with the barrel pressures that these guns make results in widely varying shots and can even cause enough blow back through the nipple back to the hammer and lock to break the tumbler. A well cared for platinum nipple will last the lifetime of the gun.

Hope this helps.... Pete

Ron Bloomquist offered such an option several years ago. Since his nipples are among the best made, I suggest you query him.

Hope this helps.

At a gun show in Ft Worth a few years ago I had picked up a .32 Crockett and a .50 TC Renegade cheap, and was still wandering the aisles. The show was divided into 2 rooms, and I crossed the hall to the other half. This meant I had to go through safety check again. There were 2 policemen there making sure the guns were unloaded. The younger one saw that I had M/L's and said "I just need to check your nipples." My reply was "Now THERE is a conversation starter for you!" I thought the older cop was going to have a stroke he was laughing so hard.
