I just got back from trading and I was able to bring home a used but in very good condition Browning 1886 SRC in 45/70. I used some heavy boolits 480gr fn ,I wonder if a lighter boolit would work better? What do yal us in yours?

Very nice rifle! An 1886 is on my bucket list. I think I would try the Lyman 405 grain flatnose since COL is critical in a magazine rifle. Plus, you will not be shooting 600+ yards with it in the same way you would with a Sharps where you would need a heavier boolit.

I use Lyman 457-192 boolits in most of my 45-70 shooting. They run about 350 grains. I also have had good luck with the RCBS 45-325U. Both shoot well at the lower velocity levels that I prefer to plink with. I have loaded them up higher, with heavier boolits, but recoil and metal butt plates are not a good combo...
I sold my SRC and have regreted it ever since, though the Marlin CB I bought to replace it when times got better is a fine gun, it doesn'y have quite the same feel.

I had a Marlin Cowboy and didn't care for the feel of it ether. The GGs feel preaty good I just wish they would make the forends thiner.

That is a good looking rifle and looks very similar to my 1892 in 45 Colt.

I just got a Rossi Rio Grande new in 45-70. I have 300, 350, and 405 grain bullets for reloading. All are from Oregon Trail.
