Hope this is the correct thread section for this topic.....I am trying to assemble a minimal selection of components for handloading.....my reloading is 12 ga, 20 ga, 410, 38 Special and 45 Colt. I have been using PB for the 12 and 20 for years. I am looking at PB for everything but the 410 which uses Lil Gun.....not looking for hot rod reloads......anyone use PB for the 38 and 45 ?? Any better ideas of suggestions ??

Thank y'all,

rick

Excellent choice! No reason to change for a general purpose easy shooting pistolas' load. Load as GreenDot when specific loads are not given for PB. ... felix

DuPont powder. One of the very first smokeless powders by number, close to BE in age. ... felix

I'm doing the same thing, but in my case 2400 works in everything but my .45ACP & 16ga.

7.62x54R
.357
9.3x72R
.410
.45-70

For 16ga & .45ACP I have to go to Unique...

DuPont (now IMR) PB is indeed a very fine powder. It is one of my favorites for shotshell reloading.

PB was the first powder marketed by DuPont that was made with a then new proprietary process that gave the powder a 'porous base'.... Hence the name Porous Base. This process was stated to improve ease of ignition, uniformity, and cleanliness. PB is the best powder available for loading extremely low pressure (but still very uniform) loads for older 12 gauge shotguns. It functions down at 5000psi uniformly and has no peer in this area. IMR 7625 is close and is also made by the porous base process.

The only disadvantage of PB is cost. It is more expensive. DuPont stated it was the rather complex process of keeping the porosity uniform lot to lot that warranted the additional cost.
