Isn't .41 swiss a rimfire cartridge?

Yes they are Rim Fire in a bolt action rifle, 13 shot tube. mag.I convert these to centerfire. These rifles have a .600 lead after the neck before the rifling starts that is smooth and tapers from .454 to. 437. Groove size is .435, some are .428,depends on the modles, This is way I am thinking of have a reamer made without that long lead. It leads some, I have custom molds made for it also. Will not be a high pressure cartridge. Just thinking what kind of a action will take rim size of .625, Single shot bolt okey.. I do have a story comming out in the next issue of the Fouling Shot about making brass and loading date. I am hodling one in my hands.Thanks- Smokemjoe, Anyone have a extractor for a sten gun.

Maybe a BP rolling block actio might be good for what you are planning. They do use 348 cases to make up the 8x60 portugese gueddes for the portugese kropatschek rifle, just two of these come to mind. Think the rolly block might be the easiest to convert. Find and fit and chamber a bbl and alter the extractor. All sounds esy until it comes crunch time. Frank

Siamese Mauser or SMLE as both work fine in 45-70. The M95 Hungarian might work. For single shot the M91 Mosin-Nagant.

The two biggest problems nowadays with finding an action to use as a platform to build a custom gun on are the outrageously high cost of anything new and the problem with modifying some milsurp that could turn into a classic some day.

Beyond using the .348 or 8mm Lebel as the parent cartridge to make the .41 Swiss from, I am not familiar with the dimensions of the .41 Swiss (in fact I've never even heard of it until just now), but without knowing the cartridge case parameters I'd say that the French MAS 36 or 36/51, or any of the Mosin-Nagant 91/59 and M44 rifles from the Soviet Union and Cold War era Com Bloc countries would fill the bill just fine as far as both strength and availability go, especially the Com Bloc Mosin-Nagants since I have seen the French rifles creeping up in value and going down in availability despite their lack of a safety and reputation for being The World’s Ugliest Rifle. The 7.62X54R Russian is a big fat rimmed cartridge like the Lebel so the Mosin-Nagant would be better than the MAS 36, although the MAS 36 has been modified to .45-70.

It sounds like a nice project, Good Luck!
