I read of a fellow who has had good results with H335 & lead bullets. has anyone here used H335 with cast bullets & if so what kind of results have you had?
I'm wanting to use it with a Marlin 95 .45-70 450gr GC looking to get between 1200 & 1400fps.
Thanks.
Frank

I am sure it would work OK with no powder reduction (full case, no compression). However, the possibility of too much velocity, hence too much recoil, should be investigated. I would not hesitate to load a few for S&G, but would also wait for a better response from someone with DIRECT experience. ... felix

H335 is a great powder in 45-70, just not in that velocity range.
You would be far better served with 20 to 22 gr of 2400 and a bit of Dacron filler. Should be in the velocity range you want and work quite well. H335 is much better for full loads, stuff in the 1800 fps range or more.

I have loaded the Lee 457-340-F PB (mine from ACWW are 339.4 Grs.) with 50 Grs. H335, a CCI 250 Primer. This chronographed 1736 Fps from my M1895. YMMV.

I've worked with H335 a little in 45/70. As the other posters said, better for top end loads. Muzzle blast and recoil are impressive. Sierra gives a Marlin load for 300grain jacketed at 63.6 grains. Older Hodgdon manual shows around 58 grains with 385 to 405 grain I believe. (double check that) I got pretty good accuracy out of it, too. At the level you are wanting to load, other powders are better.

Works good in a 30-30 and 303 Brit too.
