For the 98 Mausers that were imported rebarreled to 7.62x51, has anyone tried having one rebored to .338 Federal?

Good Cheer,

I saw an article a year ago or so where a gunsmith had reborred a Czech VZ-24 from 8x57 JS to .338'06. So, I'd say that your question has merit. I have a question regarding such a project: Would rebarreling with a new 338 Federal barrel be cheaper in the long run?

A while back I checked on having a Mosin with a really bad bore bored out to 35 cal. It would have cost me $250 for the rebore job. Not worth the price.

Around $250 is about right for a re-bore, whether it's worth it or not is kinda up to you. I have used Jesse Ocumpaugh for a Ruger #1 and was very happy with the results, not sure if he goes as small as .338 though. I think he specializes in .35 bore.

Jesse did a 336 into a 375 Win and I can't say enough good about the transaction. Very good job, fast turn around, decent price $220.

Back in the 1960s I had a 98 Mauser 8mm bbl rebored and chambered to .358 Ackley improved.
