I've got a Cimarron repro of an 1872 Colt Open Top, and it came with the brass Navy-style frame. What I really would like is a bird's head, blued steel grip frame. (Not a thunderer grip frame that seems all the rage these days, but an honest bird's head.) For me questions:

1. What frame is the 1872 Open Top based on, the SAA or the 1860, or does it make a difference?

2. Does anyone know anyone selling Bird's Head grip frames for it?

Try NCO in North Carolina. They may have it.... www.gungrip.com

The 1872 Open Top grips are based on the 1851 Navy Colt grips which the SAA grips are based on also.

MMA10,

My Open Top, 44 Colt, has the Army grip frame on it.

The Navy or SAA, is usable as the frame is the same.

Good luck and let us see the pictures when you're done.
