i just picked up a sporter mauser in 358 and am looking for load suggestions for it. i have the ranch dog 190gr mold for my 35rem and would like to use that boolit. i also have the rcbs 200gr mold, but would like to stick with one boolit in 35cal if i can. (i also use the RD boolit in my 357 rugers with great success)

i'm looking for a load for whitetail out to 100-150 yards.

What powder do you want to use and what velocity do you want to get to? What is the overall length with that boolit? Without that information all I can suggest is maybe 38 grs of IMR 4895 for approx. 1800 fps at 15737 PSI.

I have been shooting that exact combination recently. Rem 700, necked up lake city brass, RD190 cast from air cooled wheelweights, sized to .354" and patched with onionskin to .360". AA2520 powder to the base of the neck, about 45gr. IIRC. .5cc BPI shot buffer and the boolit seated to engrave the patch. 2475 fps, and 10 shot groups holding around 1.5 inches at 100 yds. Pressures seem mild with the edges of the primers still rounded and recoil is light. I had been shooting the same combination with WW748 for 100 fps more, but got a good deal on some 2520 so thought I'd give it a try. It works fine, but evidently is a touch slow for the 358 to get best speeds. Plenty accurate though!

That same boolit, sized to .359",gas checked, cast from water quenched WW metal and tumble lubed, loaded over 19gr. Blue Dot is good for 1800 fps and similar or slightly better accuracy out of my rechambered Marlin 336 with the same brass. That makes for a nice light low recoil load and is great for the cowboy silhouette matches.

My BLR likes the RCBS 35-200FN with 40.5 grains of H-4895 for 2060 fps. My M 70 likes the same boolit and 25 grains of SR-4759 for 1894 fps.

Thanks for the ideas. I'm thinking of trying 3031 as I use that with my 35 rem.

Anyone else with suggestions?
