I heard that there have been some terrible grip fitting issues with the first run, but Ruger has been standing behind them.

Can you remove the cylinder on that thing without removing the ejector rod housing?
That has been what keeps me from falling in love with it.

Do you mind sharing where you found yours and about how much lighter your wallet is? I can't find these things anywhere!

Not sure about the cylinder removal...but they lop off the end of the base pin so that the ejector will eject the cases, so I suppose that this also allows room for the cylinder removal.

I posted the Lipsey link above the pic ...they are a special run from Lipsey's. They just came out on the 6th (I ordered mine on the 8th and the first run was already gone) Just have to go to your dealer and telling him to order it for you.

Dealer cost on them is $500, so armed with that info you will know how bad your dealer is sticking-it-to-you. Not sure if the effort required to make a 3 minute phone call should justify a $200or$300 dollar charge:mrgreen:

I'm pretty lucky as my local gunshop will only add on a $20.00 surcharge for special orders when you pay cash and in advance of the order. Lipsey's does sell some great pistols when they have their special runs.

While that 44 sure is purty - I have a hard time justifying it over my SBH SS 4 3/4 that I sent to Bowen for a Belt mountain base pin, his rear site and an action job - just too much invested in it to loose what - 1 in of barrel.

Now if I didn't have my 44SBH - Yea I would be ordering one.

WoW I was about to post something on this very same Pistol. I am sure thinking about one. But the closest dealer to me which is Houston as None are in San Antonio want $583.00 for that Gym.

I was looking at the Ruger Blackhawk Flat Top in .44 SP but the one as pictured looks far better for the price not to mention Stainless Steel. :)

Jestergrin, there was one of those 44 specials listed on one of the sites up here in just the last couple of days. I can see if I can find the info on it if you want.

I may have been wrong about what exact gun it was, it just says blackhawk 44 special.
Here is a link to the add if you are interested in it. He is wanting 450 bucks for it, what do they generally sell for?

I guess that is about right between $400.00-$450.00 but it is too far to add shipping plus FFL Transfer.

But I do Thank You for looking into it.

I am going to hold out till I get more funds to get the one posted above in Stainless.

Do not get me wrong I like Blue but it does not like me lol. For me to handle Blue anything I have to keep an oil rag in my pocket lol. Or Bad things happen if I handle them lol. Like RUST lol.

The Little Pistol Above is about Perfect for what I am looking for. Short Barrel,Easy to Maintain,Plus in Stainless, And a Bisley Grip. I like the Bisley Grip lol. It looks easy to carry and still capable of decent fire power if one should need it.

there's a Bisley, too.

painful at $750, though. Maybe you can find cheaper. The 4 5/8" is only $507 on GB. That 3 3/4" is going to be even better at shearing ejector rod housing screws than my 4 5/8".

JesterGrin_1

I sure hope it does not shear ejector rod screws lol. And well with tax it is $638.00 out the door. That is if it shows up. :)

Lipseys dealer price is just a shade over $500, not sure of the exact number but for sure it is under $530. My dealer has been bugging them and they still have not received in another shipment.

Having good luck with the Lee 200 grain Round Flat nose mold. I think it's supposed to be 44-40 but works great in my 44 Special. Jerry at CarolinaCastBullets has them too. Last time out, I knocked down a couple of 3" circles at 50 meters. Pretty accurate little flattop, 5.5" barrel though.

Specs are gradeA perfect, straight outta the box!

Good Luck,
Ron

PS: the flattops became a catalog item at Ruger immediately after the Lipsey's run. You might try Ruger but, I doubt they have it in stainless.

Not sure of the Gun Shops price but they have to make money which brings it to $589.95 I think and then TEXAS Tax of which brings it to $638.62

very cool gun in the greatest caliber ever and if it would have been introduced 10 years ago a couple would be living here too. the budget makes it tough to buy new guns anymore though and ive got enough short barreled 44s and 45s to keep a couple people happy allready.

OK. Let me be the Grinch. In a barrel that short are you going to burn enough powder to really achieve magnum velocities?

Other then that it is a sweet looking little six shooter.

personally on a gun like that magnum velocities wouldn't be the biggest concern for me fun would be the biggest concern. however with a 300gr bullet does one really need magnum velocities??? just a thought

I do have a couple of good loads with the Lee 310Gr and the MiHec 300 Gr HP but they are upper end loads. Not something I would shoot just for fun lol. But I would be confident in them doing there job.

For Normal carry for me I usually have 2 or 3 rounds of Snake Shot and the other three a load of a 240Gr SWC with 5.5Gr of TiteGroup in the .44 Mag Case.

I started this thread and then kind of left you all hanging...

Yes I got it. It is very nice for packing. First thing that I did was build a nice chest holster for it. I don't even know I have it on.

Fit and finish was the typical Ruger hack job..but not bad and I have seen lots worse from Ruger lately. So overall I was happy with the fit and finish of the little gun.

I am still trying to get the time to find a good load for it. I am having really bad flyers with it They don't really show up until you get to about 200yard But at that point it is anybody's guess as to where they will hit...talking WAY OFF target...but I think it may be the boolits that I cast. I may have had some zinc in the mix and it was my first run with my new brass HP mould (Mihec).

I got the mould supper hot and I think some of my boolits are slightly bent at the crinp groove. And I can see several of the HP's are out of round from opening my mould too soon and then pushing the HP pin to remove the boolit.

I sized them to .431 and the GC's seem to be real easy to pull off..I think I'll try to aneal the checks to see if this will help.

I sure hope that it's not a crown issue etc. I have not slugged it yet, but the cylinder throats all measured good. But it was doing the same thing with Bludot, a softer alloy. I sized the first batch to .429...so I blamed it on my sizing die being too small...but it didn't seem to help to harden the alloy and size to .431??

I did buy a box of factory jacketed rounds for it and they seemed to shoot fine...but I didn't take them to the bench, just shot at trees and rocks etc. So I am still hopefull...just need more time..lol

The little Bisley handles amazingly well. I loaded my load hot with H110 (24-25gr) and the 265hp and 280gr solid with the Mihec 640 GC cast and it is extremely easy to handle...even with these loads.

When I get some more info and chance to shoot it more I will update you all.

FWIW..I only got one...might be my dealer saw $ signs and kept the other one without letting me know that it came in, since he gave me the first one with just a $35 transfer fee over cost. Can't complain about that.

Found one myself today and should have it in a week or so. As far as velocity go when Gunblast tested one of these they were getting around 1,250 fps with bullets running from 300-340 grains. Here is their review:

I have had one for several months. It is great fun. Shooting the really heavy bullets, loaded warm can be a handful. It is accurate and ejects the empties easily. The cylinder comes out the same as any Ruger.

Highly recommend it.

BTY, my Ruger BIsley with the 3 3/4 barrel came in. Sweet little revolver. Ruger did a BAD job installing the grips. Might send it off for some nice custom wood

plenty enough barrel lenght to get a 300 up to 1100 fps and what more does a guy need in the hunting field.

Finally took the Bisley 3 3/4 to the range today. Other than needing a trigger job am pretty happy with the purchase. I was pleasantly surprised at how well it handled the recoil and the muzzle flash is impressive:)
Was using Berry coated bullets and it was my first outing with it so can't comment to much on the accuracy other than it seemed to hit what I was aiming at when my concentration was there.
I like it, a lot:) A great little hip gun.

I went to the Ruger forum and posted a WTB ad. Same day got a response and a price of $550 shipped for one NIB. Some people claimed they paid less but that didnt bother me. Wait for the lowest price is always the longest wait.

My son has a 3 1/2" single action, base pin is removed without removing the ejector rod housing by a notch the ejector rod head slips up into which gets it out of the way of the base pin line. The notch is near the frame. The system works well.

I finally got my troubles with mine located and fixed.

My barrel was so choked at the threads I could not believe it.

It was shooting huge groups with unpredictable flyers.

I fire lapped it and now have just about all the restriction out and it is tightest right at the muzzle.

Took it out today and fired it over the bags. I was so thrilled!!! I did a few sighters and then fired the group. I watched as 5 rounds went into 2 1/4" at 70 yards. What a great day! With this little barreled shooter, I could not ask for more. I was shooting the same targets with my Scoped Bisley SBHH and couldn't get it to beat the grouple the LittleBigGun fired
