The rifle is a 32 WS and I'm wondering about the forearm because it is a little loose. Can I tighten it up in any way? The wood is pretty nice with no cracks and I was wondering if there is a way to preserve it or keep it from cracking? Or should I not worry and go have fun.

It was made in 1901 and it says "nickle steel barrel for smokeless powder".

Beautiful gun. I heard that reason 32 Specials were so popular 100 + years ago was they work better with cast bullets than the 30/30 that they would be inevitably compared with. (Not trying to start a "30/30 vs 32 Special" war here. They're both great guns.) You shall have a lot of fun with that one.

enjoy,

Thanks, it's not perfect but it is nice. I did some trading to get her home.

The 32's have slower twist rates and seem to handle cast faster than 30-30s. The bore on this one is good to go with a lot of rifling. I shot up all of my reduced loads with BE powder and it has good repeatable accuracy.

But 30-30 ammo is everywhere and not so much with 32 Winchester.
