View Full Version : Lyman SC 311465
I bought 2 nice molds from Doug a few days ago. One is a Lyman 311465, the other an old IDEAL 358477. I'm proud to fine a nice 465' as I also have the 466' and the 467' Loverines .
I'm anxious to get out and take these 465's and run them through their paces. If they shoot well, they could be " real lead savers."

one of my favorite boolits! I have two molds, one SC and one double and I love this boolit as a light choice in the 30-30, 30-40, or 30-06. I have also used it for funsies in my 32-20 with good results. 17.5 grains of 2400 in the 30-30 is one fine load. Enjoy your good fortune!
rintinglen,
I shoot mostly 308 Win. and 06's. Hopefully it will shoot well in these rifles.
Thanks,
Ben

I have a 311465 HP and it is pretty good but for some reason the 311316 outshoots it.maybe yours will be different.Mine s also is fully cylindrical unlke the 466's and 467's i have.Though one of my 466's is also a cylinder like the 465 and doesn't shoot as well.

George,
Maybe it is all about throat fit ? Maybe I'll have a rifle that is compatible with the cylindrical bullet?
Thanks,
Ben

It probably is throat fit.I just dont feel like tapering a little plinker bullet like that!I have shot it in a big throated Mosin Nagant and it was OK but again not as good as the 311316 or 3118.I only have the one mold so maybe i got a "dog".
Just in case anyone wants a mould.

This has been my favorite 30cal bullet for years. I've always used it as a light plinking bullet & like to use pistol powders with it.
The only 30cal I have left is a old 03a3 & the only 30cal mold I still own is a 311465. There's nothing better than loading up some of these bullets, hanging some reduced service rifle targets @ the 100yd line & enjoying that rifle/bullet combo.
I've always tried to keep this bullet in the 1500 to 1600 range for no other reason other than I didn't have to make/use any specail or harder alloys to cast them. Most pistol powders seem to do well with this bullet & I've always used mild loads with them (12g to 14g range). Some of the powders that peformed well for me are greedot, unique, herco & now universal clays.
I'm sure you'll come up with some interesting data with this bullet.
Forrest,
I too have an 03-A3. Seems that there may be some good shooting on the horizon for me and the 465'.
I got several " fast burners " ( B'eye, Clays, AA # 2 and # 5, Red Dot, Promo, etc. ) on the propellant shelf. That may be where I start with this one.
An accurate plinking load is exactly what I've got on my mind.............
Many thanks,
Ben

Anyone ever try the 311-465 in a 32-20wcf as a heavy. Seems like it might be a good bet. It's being ofered on a current group buy - in a flat nose with a .314 diameter option at about 120 gr. I believe. Also an HP available that cuts the weight down to the 116 gr. Neighborhood.

Don't forget the .30 Carbine. Mine works well it is (both carbine and Ruger)./beagle
