:castmine: Has anyone tried the Lee REAL muzzleloader mould in their 45-70? Was wondering what the cast bullet size is, and if they worked in the load,eh? I think it might be a good 200 g load, eh.:Fire:

The Lee Real works good in the Ruger Old Army, but i suspect the rear bands may be too small for the 45/70. I'll measure one and let you know what I find.

How about a link, eh? ;)

I've been wondering the same thing about the REAL in .45-70. Nice to know that it works in the ROA, too!

Oh and yes, I did look for it.

Just for giggles I loaded some in my 45acp. They actually shoot good.

I did not have good results trying to load them in the normal manner, but I found if I seated them all the way down in the case so they were on the powder, WC 820, 20gr, in this case, they shot ok, actually too fast, I was getting 1500+fps, and 1200+ -fps is the best accuracy. I tried both the 200 and 250gr REALs.
I did ream one mold out to .460 on both the front and rear band, they worked ok, but shoving them down on top of the powder is easier and does not need any filler and there is no position sensitivity.
