Appears to be a 'sporterized' M98k (Can't find a reference for an 'ncd' mfg. code but 'bcd 4' would be an M98k manufactured by the Gustloff Werke in 1944.) but would need additional info to make any better than a WAG at what it's worth. Looks like a 'stepped' military barrel and the trigger guard/floor plate appear 'stock' but military rear sight has been removed. What's the caliber...original 8x57? Also, what's it got for sights? Looks like the base for a Williams Aperature Sight mounted to right side of the receiver but adjustment arm/aperature assembly are missing. What's the front sight like...original military or commercial ramp? What's the condition of the bore? Any idea who made the replacement stock? All of the above would be serious factors in making a valuation.

The action if all the serial # match - highly doupt it- probably bolt mismatch would be collectable. since it no longer has the original stock what you got it priced at is about right. As it has very little collector value. It's a shooter!:|

The last "sporterised" Mauser I bought like yours I paid $100 for. Yes it shoots very nicely, but is a cobbled up affair like yours.Robert

Not drilled and tapped for scope mounts, rear sight removed, is there a front sight? Looks like someone got tired of their "sporterizing", or ran out of funds to finish the job. Drilled and tapped for whatever that mount might be, it can't be restored to military configuration. IMO it needs to be compared to commercial rifles for pricing. That puts it at a disadvantage both as to features and price. Of course there is no telling what a person looking for exactly that type of rifle might be willing to pay.

Just my $0.02.

BigDave3,

Welcome as a new member!

Today, I don't think you're going to see much money for a rifle with such an untold interesting past. Thinking about 8x57 Mausers, IMHO most people that buy 98 Mausers are seeking military memorabilia. In that respect you're at a disadvantage.

8x57 Mausers are quite popular with this web community. If its a good shooter keep it! Looks like it would make a great brush or truck gun.

Enjoy,

Any info on caliber? Sights? Looks like some sight or scope rear base added into
the stripper clip slot, never saw this sort of thing before. Trigger? stock or aftermarket?

If original miliary barrel and no sights $100 -150 or so. If some comm. sporter barrel, add about
$50 or maybe more if especially nice and identifiable maker (maker name on bbl and a
'known quality' maker).

Lots out there unfinished, depends VERY much on the individual person. Agree on 98K
action.

the code could be a bcd with much of the b worn off to make it appear to be an n.

These are nice WWII Mausers.
