I want to order some brass in 45 colt from one of the discount houses. I just want about 500 rnds. Do you guys prefer one brand over another. I guess I should say have you have any bad experience with any brand. Or should I just go for the cheapest they have?

The Cowboy action shooters at our gun club swear by Starline brass
they say they get more reloads from it.

You may not find it cheaper than from Starline's website and you won't find any that's better. Their price includes shipping.

We could do a group buy of starline brass but you'd have to buy 3 55 gallon drums of it to get the discount. I looked into it and have pricing if anyone wants to look into it.

Never have used 45 colt from Starline, but, have some 357 and 45-70 that I have done my best to destroy and no luck yet. Some of the 45-70 has 10 heavy loadings through it and have not even had to trim it yet. I know Dr. A has loaded a ton of 45 colt and it is still going strong.

Way back when, I would purchase loaded ammo to generate the cases I needed for handloading. As a result, I have Fed., American Eagle, Rem. and Win. cases in abundance. All have and still work just fine for me. When the day comes that I have to start sending my old cases to the recycler, I'll be happy to give Starline a try. With the mid range loads I use however, where 900 fps is really pushing it, I don't expect to be buying any soon.

I like Federal, Winchester, and Hornady brass.

I have had a problem with Starline Brass. 357 max loads - head seperations brand new brass, in a Uberti 73. Lost over 30% of 200.
Winchester & Federal brass, same load, same everything-No Problem.

I still use Starline, but only for low pressure loads. But Winchester, Remington, or Federal would be my first choice.

It's all about the lot of brass used, and how much annealing between draws. The drawers prolly use a set formula, and that's bad. Each lot of slugs should be tested before drawing begins, and a few cases per lot tested severely before packaging. You can almost never go by brand name. ... felix

Starline brass gets my vote over Remington or Winchester.

I have had good luck with this source. He is here in Vegas and I go to the shop to save on shipping. Today I picked up 500 cases of PMC Primed new brass for $75. A few years ago I got 1K of 30-06 fired cases for $75. I do not think you can beat this price on 45 colt brass. Here is his website http://www.brassmanbrass.com/inventory-002.html

He has quite an operation. HE has leased commercial space and trucks in brass from California and other locations. This is not a mom and pop operation and he has the best prices around here at least. Give him a try.

I have Winchester and Starline in 45 Colt and can't see any difference. Maybe those boys who play dress up cowboy can tell the difference because they give the cases harder use.

I have used their 45 colt and 44 mag brass. The 45 version is exquisite brass with excellent primer pocket control, i.e., BR quality. The 44 version is not quite as uniform all the way around, but at least equal to other "brands". Both sizes appear to be well annealed, and will take full blown loads in large chambers. ... felix

I assume that's 'tongue in cheek', cause the Cowboy Shooters I know load as light as they can, They want the bullet to exit the barrel and travel 15 or 20 feet and that's all. Real He-men. John Wayne is spinning in his grave...
