I ordered a new mold from ACCURATE MOLDS LLC last saturday and it arrived today. This my 4th mold from Tom and my first for a rifle. It is the 310170E that appears to be a ringer for the Lyman 311041. I have been casting only for a year and a half and have been very lucky so far since I have no desire to ever buy a commercial boolit again. I plan on using this boolit for my wifes 788 30-30 and my 03 in 06. I bought a box of lazer cast slugs of the same profile this last winter and the 788 liked 17grs of IMR4227. I also have alot of 2400 and unique and 4198 on hand. Should I spring for AA 5744 too? By the way the molds cut to throw a .310 at 170grs with wheel weights. Also as expected it looks beautiful.

It sounds like you are getting set up well!

I really like unique for plinking in the 30/30, and use a little less than 9 grains. It is tough to beat 2400 for mid-range loads and it works well in the 30/30. Like you, I am prepping to load 30/06 and I'll explore the use of these two powders before trying another.

imo the 5744 won't do any better than what you have now.
17 grs of 2400,10 grs of unique, would work fine under that boolit.

Thanks guys, I have some 06 cases loaded with Lyman starting data with unique and 2400, plus I intend to load up some with 4198. I hope to find something for the 06 for plinking and something hotter for hunting.
