Has anyone tried the lee 310 in a rossi 92 44 mag? Do they cycle? I stumbled upon a Rossi short rifle, 20" octagon barrel and case hardened receiver today and honestly I was quite taken by the little rifle and he was right on the money. I think it would be a great partner to my SBH, but if it wouldn't be able to use the same boolit, it wouldn't be that convenient for me as the Lee 310 is the only thing I shoot in my SBH. Thoughts?

it might.
i filed a bit off my carrier stop button to get 429241's to cycle in mine.
the 429667 glides right through the leverguns nicely though.
the rossi's will usually feed a bit longer than saami length without problems.
1.620 would be about max though.
if you're at about 1.610-15 i'd say chances are [super high] it will feed.

now the bad news.
a lot of the newer ones made by taurus have bbls in the 431-432 diameter.

Well, the bad news aint exactly bad for me. My lee 310 is beagled to drop about .4325" boolit for my SBH already.

Not to hijack but do lots of Taurus .44 have that large groove dia? I've been eyeballing the Rossi 92 with the 24" octagon barrel pretty hard of late. The reason I ask is that my Raging Bull in 44 mag has what I thought was an odd and huge .432 groove diameter. It would be a delight to find out they run the same size. To get the fit correct in the Bull I plain based a Lee 310 mold and enlarged the now very long base band so that it drops at .435-.436 on the bottom band. Leading is limited to very minor light streaks that never seem to get any bigger even after 500+ rounds. Reasonably accurate with the powders I've tried so far too. 46521
This target was at 50yds rested and with a scope. Sorry for the ramble but I'm very interested in this combo as its probably what I'd use!

most all of the new 44's i have heard about [actually slugged] have been on the large side. [431-2]
thier 45's also.[454]
they also done something to the twist rate on the 357's as they seem to shoot light [125 gr] boolits best . [but they do fine with 358 diameter boolits]
i have 6 different rossi's and would grab some more if they were in calibers i didn't have but i'm not so keen on the new taurusus.

I have a 16" ss 44 mag. Just bought it new in Jan, so it should be a good example of what to expect from a new Rossi. I have shot the Lee 310 with good accuracy using 18 gr of AA#9. It has about the same drop at 100 yds as my 45/70 with a 340 and 16 gr of Unique.

thats a pain . .. . been looking seriously at another .45 Rossi - 24 inch hex barrell - if its not the moulds from Lyman getting smaller its the barrells getting wider . . . . cheers
