Just wondering I have some cast bullets 275 of them I just sized to .309 for my 30/30 Win and I suppose I will also use them for my 308 TC Encore and my 7.5x55 Swiss. all are gas checked and lubed with Lee liquid alox and have to be lubed again since I resized them. I resized them with a Lee Sizer. Thinking about thinning the Liquid Alox a bit or do you guys run it straight for rifle bullets? Now my main question is I have some of these from my 311407 mould and they weigh 185 grains cast from wheel weights. I also have some bullets that were given to me that have the same size metplat as the 311407 but just a tad shorter and it has 4 wider grooves on it then the style the 311407 does with its many grooves. This bullet weighs about 182 to 183 grains. Now I know both will print some what different but for all intents and purposes can I work up one load for both of these since after the bullets are used up that I was given I will be loading strictly the 311407 bullet for all my 30 cal cast needs. Will two or three grains make that much of a difference? I plan on loading these strong enough for deer not plinking loads. That brings up an other question I have seen guys here that have suggested 16 grains of 2400 for a good load in the 30/30. What vel will that load produce with a 180 to 185 grain bullet? or should I just buy an other powder to use for the 30/30 and use the 2400 for the 308 and 7.5 Swiss?

its a crap shoot. Weight isnt the only thing to look at when load developing. A gun can shoot two bullets of a differnt design that weight the same to a totaly different point of aim and with completely differnt results for what works for an accurate load.

45, I shoot different alloys from the same mold in my Marlin 30-30 that vary in weight from 183-186 gr. Out to 125 yards it does'nt know the difference. But yours are from different molds so you probably won't know till you shoot them.
Seems like almost everybody on this board with 30-30's has great luck with 2400. The 2400 will not shoot well with this heavy of a boolit in my Marlin.
24 grs. of Reloder 7 is the only Powder I've found that will shot 2" groups at 100 yards.

Only your rifle can tell you what works and what doesn't. You have to try it and see. Yes, you can thin LLA and it will work great. With longer boolits, you can dip them into thinned LLA and not get it all over the noses. I do not relube after sizing, it's in the grooves where it's supposed to be, especially if you applied it unthinned.

Stuck the LLA bottle in some hot water for a while and then squirted some in a oatmeal container with the bullets in it. Worked great coated the bullets a lot better than when it is thick.

I put my bullets in an old cake pan and heat them up till warm on a hotplate. Then I coat them with straight LLA. The warm bullets take a more even coat than when cold.
