If one is using light loads- say 15-20gr 5744- in a 30-30 does it matter whether or not if you use a variety of cases vs sorted and separate?

You need to trim them all to the same length as they vary quite a bit, otherwise you will be readjusting your crimp die if you load them in a tube magazine.

Properly trimmed, there won't be much difference. For a while, I was loading 400+ rounds of 30-30 ammo a month, about half of which involved light boolits. I sorted by which rifle fired the round, not head stamp. Testing revealed negligible differences at 50 yards between mixed and sorted head stamps. Since I was buying once fired brass off E-bay, that was a boon, because not having to sort brass headstamps made loading quicker.
