i cast 280g WFN for my smiths handis and winchester in 44 mag

have loads for this......

been shooting 44 russians in the charters with 3 grains bulls eye
but just want a little more

i have lots of 280 slugs and bulls eye

loaded 44 specials with 4 grains bulleye
they shoot good....but not sure if they will be safe in the CHARTERS
none have been fired in a charter yet

i just can't find loading data for a 44 special in 280g....or anything over 240

my 44 loads with bullseye and the 280WFN.sized 431......are they safe?????
mag.....8 grains.....1100fps chrony in 5 inch smith [probly 700 fired so far]
special...4 grains
russian....3grains

seems like some one by now would have scolded me for useing an unpublished load

or atleast found some load somewhere useing 280 grain in a 44 spl..

i am mainley concerned about the strenght of the charter revolvers

i can try a different powder but would like to use this slug

I think you'll find that the Charter Bulldog is stronger than your wrist. Meaning you'll hurt yourself before you hurt the gun.

In my Bulldog, 265-gr bullets at more than 700 fps are brutal. I wouldn't want to shoot many even at 600 fps.

Yup, with that much lead, it might hurt. I'd use a much lighter (I use 180 gr. wadcutters in mine) boolits and loads Maybe medium loads of Unique or blue Dot.

http://www.goodrichfamilyassoc.org/44_Special_Articles/

found this in the stickies....lots of good reading
quite a few recipes calling for 5g of bullseye with a 240 t0 255grain slug
i think i will be safe with 4 grains bullseye and 280 grains lead
just be nice to see this load in print!!

Well, it will be fun watching the slugs rainbow their way to the target.

looking through most of the links i found yesterday
looks like my 8 grains of bullseye in the 44 mag.....[same 280WFN]
is over charged
they shoot great in my handi and winchester rifles over last few years
probly have 1000 through my smith over last 15 years
i guess i should just burn up what i have loaded in the rifles and ruger BH

rocky...i will check out you sight later tonight
