Disassembled a BH using Ruger videos. Put in a SBH hammer. Upon reassembly hammer won't drop when trigger is pulled. No left over pieces but I did something wrong. Any help much appreciated.

first thing i would check is the hammer spring and make sure you unpinned it after reasemmbly

I you want, come up for a visit and we'll figure it out. Blackhawks are pretty simple compared to other things.

Check the hammer spring strut. If backwards, the gun won't work.

+1, This is most likely the problem...ask me how I know....

+1

Also check the clearance on the sides of the hammer, but I'm 99% sure it's the strut backwards.

Update. Took apart again found bent hammer plunger. Borke when I tried to straighten. Cut piece of drill bit (shank end) re assembled and hammer would cock with a lot of wiggling. Trigger pull was nice. After a few dry fires it has now locked up and won't cock. Thanks for suggestions so far.

Did more research. Definitely hammer plunger issue.

Are you trying to use an extended plunger to stop the cylinder from ringing? If you are sure it is the plunger, remove the plunger and the cylinder and see if the hammer works as it should then.

Hammer came from a gun show parts vender. Found a #50something drill bit that made an excellent hammer plunger retaining pin (missing from my gun) reassembled and all is well. I polished the sear surfaces wit a Dremel buffing wheel and have a very sweet trigger. Being a convertible I now have a versatile revolver that shoots a variety of ammunition well. I am one happy chubby old guy.

That's great. Who would expect the retaining pin to be missing? :holysheep

Not sure how "missing" the retaining pin was. I have had this gun a long time and shot it a lot. May have misplaced the pin but I was very careful with the small parts. Something went wrong when the hammer plunger bent. Maybe the retaining pin broke then.
