Is anyone using Ranch Dog's lightest flavor for the .44 in a revolver? I've got both S&W and Ruger revolvers that need feeding. ;)

Should work good. Both of your guns do well with 240 gr.

Gents,

Thanks, I may be ordering a mold in the near future.

Now to decide whether to check, half check or go completely unchecked. :D

How hot you going to load your 44s? Gas checks are unnecessary for low-to-medium level loads...a CHORE BOY is a lot cheaper than a box of gas checks.

When I order a mold from NOE, I specify FOUR plain base and ONE gas check cavity....and the can of boolits to get gas checked in the future is getting full.

I liked TLC 432 265 enough to get a TWO cavity; bought a SIX cavity from RANCH DOG; then bought the NOE plain base lube groove clone in a FIVE cavity. The heavier boolit seems to work some better for me in the VAQUEROS and Cowboy rifles.

I'm probably not going to load too hot, say in the 1,200fps range or less. I've got a 4" S&W Mtn Gun and a 4 5/8" Super Blackhawk, neither one is much fun with hot loads. Plus the biggest critter I'll shoot at in WV is probably a whitetail deer or black bear so there isn't a need for any firebreathing defense loads.

I load for three 44 mag pistols and two different rifles. I do not use gas checked boolits in any loads. Even my rifles do not require them and I am pushing the daylights out of em in the Marlin.

Just be aware, that the Ranch Dog is a slightly oversize boolit and will need a little resizing. It works great, just dont be surprised.

it's oversized for the marlin rifles.
i'd figure on getting @ 432 from them.

I tumble lube RANCH DOG'S TLC 432 265 with LLA/XLOX or 45/45/10, then gas check and size to .432, AND tumble lube again. This has the advantage of removing residual lead from pistol barrels...more fun that using a CHORE GIRL or a brush. The 240 should do the same way for you.

I stay lower on loads...about 1000 FPS...in 5.5 and 7.5 inch Original Size VAQUEROS. YOU have to find the balance point for YOUR OWN loads...where power, accuracy, and shooting comfort come together.
