Picked up a 'sportarized' 1917 in 30-06 from GB for $190.00. Luckily the only sporterizing was done to the stock. Now I am looking for a stock for it.

Well I got it and after cleaning the bore and sluging it it is well worn, but it is 95 yrs old.
I measured the twist and it looks like 1-12"
Does this sound right for 1917 30-06 rifles?
I got some new ww brass and will go to the range in the AM. to fire form them with Lee 150 gr RNFP boolits.[smilie=w:

When I sluged the barrels in mine both came out in the 303/314 range (in 30-06). I guess that is why I never could get them to shoot before I sluged them.

..............If it's a military barrel it will have 5 equal width lands and grooves of a 1in 10" left hand twist.

I got this M1917 complete with all metal except the buttplate, and no stock. The stock & handguards came from GPC.

It turned out so nice I had to buy a bayonet for it :-)

I forget the price for the wood now but it was very reasonable. If they're out you might try Springfield Sporters.

From the research I have done, I would guess it has a Johnson Automatics 2 groove RH twist barrel from arsenal refurb. Anyone know the twist rate?
