I want to slug a treasured rifle and know enough not to use wood to push the slug through the barrel. I am thinking brass rod cut into sections to push the slug through.
Am I on the right track?

I lightly oil the bore, then start the slug in the muzzle and tap it in an inch or so with a brass punch. then I use a full length rod to push it throught he barrel. It doesn't take a lot of force once the rifling is engaged.

I oil well and drop the slug into the chamber then tap it thru with a steel rod wrapped in electrical tape.
If you have sizing die wax for your brass, applying a bit of that to the slug really eases things in my experience.

If a section breaks, it turns into two opposing wedges, that you will have a very interesting time getting back out of the barrel.
