Does anyone have a few bolt parts for a Mauser 71/84? Body and cocking piece mainly, also Firing pin nut. ANYTHING, IN ANY condition, rusty, possibly even defective. SOMEONE MUST HAVE one is a stash..... to spare. OR HAS ANYONE MADE one, and can give advice and sketches ? WB

Try Gun Broker. I am looking to buy a 71/84, and I check GB regularly. There are a lot of parts available there.

Found an extractor:

But egun is the place to trawl for spares.

Dave , I have been watching Gun broker for weeks, No luck so far.
Chicken thief: What category on egun should I be looking in? I can read a little German, so hopefully I can find my way. The extractor listed is for a mod. 71, so will not fit the 71/84.
Thanks for your help so far. WB

Sammlerwaffen/-munition

Then
1) Gewehre
2) Sonstiges (misc)

Often spares are listed in the rifle section "before 1900"

Look around here ... http://www.mausercentral.com/gunparts.htm

You also would have been better responded to if you posted your needs on Cast Boolits Military Rifles ... folks that look on this forum are BPCR shooters

Dunno, the 71/84 is a bolt action repeater - but it is a Black Powder bolt action repeater. Might should have posted both places. When I started looking for BP loads for the 11.2x52R Beaumont (.43 Beaumont) I checked here and there. But that's just me.

Ed in TX, A friend of mine says: The more lines you have in the water , the more likely you will catch a fish..... [] NOW GUYS: HAS ANYONE ever tried or made a bolt body for the 71/84 Mauser? If so , any help , hints methods? ANYONE have comment on the metal or metallurgy needed? I think 4140 steel. WB [/B]

For the application I believe a 4140 PHT will work just fine. Actually, you might get away with case hardening cold rolled. O1 would be easier to turn and mill and heat treat to 35 or 40. Have to look that one up for sure.

DRHall, Thanks. The more I think about it, I get a little nervous about making the part that really holds things together : The bolt body. I still would MUCH prefer to find an original BOLT BODY.... Even if in not so good condition , needing work. ANYONE have one to part with? WB

Well it depends how much you are willing to pay for a bolt. Or how about a complete rifle less the magazine?

The best deal on the internet right now is a complete 71/84 Mauser less the magazine, in completely fireable condition for $149.99 plus shipping , no FFl required.

I paid more for my bolt than they are asking for a complete rifle.

Check out Old Western Scroungers web site/surplus rifles for the deal of the century.

There waterbug , that should keep you happy for a while.
Buying a complete rifle is a whole lot cheaper than having a bolt machined.
Heck even the bolt head costs $70.00 or more plus you have to buy an extractor and ejector on top of the price of the bolt head so you are getting a complete rifle for less than a bolt head would cost you.

Wish they had, had the deal when I was building mine.

Went and checked. Their webpage states complete except for magazine and bolt. 10 in stock.

Sorry Ed,
Guess I didn't read far enough.
They had some complete ones not too long ago that were used in the movie "The Last Samuri".
Set up as single shot but fireable.
Maybe still have some.
Worth an e-mail to find out.
Think they were asking $500 for them, not sure.
Even at $500 still cheaper than gunbroker or trying to build one.
I have about $500 each in mine and still had to look for parts and make my own stocks.

Chuck, I understand. I have been thinking about it constantly, and could not make up my mind, so your decision settles it. WB

People keep parting out old rifles sand selling the parts on Ebay too.
List a search and save it and have Ebay send you email when 71/84 bolts are listed.

Excellent idea. Do the same for GunBroker too (in "parts" if you want to eliminate whole rifles).

I have been able to buy most all the parts I need for 1 71/84 bolt. With some of the parts I have a strange firing pin. see picture, which shows a normal pin and the one that is longer and has two flats on the nose. Can anyone tell what rifle that is for? WB

It looks like a GEW 88 or Dutch 95 Mannlicher

Hi ALL, I have been able to buy all the bolt parts needed to complete this project. Also bought a stock at a recent gun show for $10, and am refinishing it. So making good progress on this sporter...shooter. WB
