I went to a friends to buy some old Winchesters he wanted to get rid of and while I was there his wife who is the sister of the Mitchell Brothers of Porno fame told me the story of the 22 rifle I was about to get.
This was the gun that Jim Mitchell shot his brother Artie with trying to get him to go to rehab for drug and Alcohol abuse. Apparently he was a bad shot and hit him in the eye killing him.
The family had big money and got the gun back to give to Jims son James who is doing life in prison now for murdering his wife with a baseball bat.
The gun is traced back to Jim Mitchell and is the only known 22lr he ever bought.
Kind of a cool story from Jims sister who is a good friend but never knew that part of her life.

Okay, so Jim shot Artie and Killed him and also killed his wife with a baseball bat? Seems like a real nice guy, which explains why he was in the porn biz I suppose.

Could be Jim was a good shot depending on your point of view.

Did you guys see the movie "Christine" by Stephen King. This rifle is probably of the same ilk.

I remember reading quite a lot about the story at the time. But I am more interested in the rifle....

I think it reads that Jim's son James killed his wife with a bat, not Jim killing his wife.

Still sounds like a family whose gene pool needs some serious chlorine.

Hum, the family that slays together, stays together, atleast the ones that live. Personally I don't think I'd want the gun, but that's just me.

Those of you that wouldnt want the gun for what SOMEONE did with it sound a lot like the democrates that are trying to take our guns away, a gun is just a tool, it cant do anything unless someone uses it.
Bet you wouldnt turn down Jesse James colt for the same reason.

Re-read the posts. No one dissed the gun, just the retards using it to kill off their family. I don't blame the gun or the bat, but I'll stand by my chlorine in the gene pool and status of porn producers comments.

I'd have no interest in this gun or Jesse James Colt based on a criminal using it. That doesn't say anything about the gun, but it does say a lot about my esteem for criminals. If I could get either gun at a good price and knew I could turn it over to some schmuck for a tidy profit, yeah, then I'd do it. But to own a criminals gun just to glorify a lowlife? No thanks, I'll pass.

I agree 110%, someone actually gets it, has nothing to do with the gun, just the scumbags. As far as me being a Democrat, give me a break you couldn't be farther off base. The Democrat liberal types I know are the people that try to twist what you actually said to what they want to believe you said, or want others to believe you said to make themselves look better, I consider them scumbags too.:Fire:

I bought the gun to eventually turn it for a profit because there is always someone interested in a gun used in a crime. Plus I have always wanted a winchester pump 22.

I have my Dad's mod. 62A, and couldn't care less what its history is. It's undoubtly the best small game 22 below auto statis. Its light and accurate with s, l, or lr ammo. It doesn't even care what brand.
Death is the only thing that will ever get it away from me.

I lead a sheltered life, no clue what you're talking about.

ETA- wasn't there a little kid actor called stimy or stymie way back when , like in the 30's or so?

It was a line from the little rascals...."It might choke artie but it wont choke stymie" as he peeled an artichoke

Ah! I've only seen a few LR flicks. When I was kid we got 2 stations and LR wasn't on the play list. Fortunately, Bugs Bunny was.

Bill: Yes "It Might 'Choke' Artie, but it aint goin' choke Stymie"

Stymie's point on Artichokes. Probably the most memorable line in all the shows.

Stymie was the black kid on the Little Rascals TV show in the late 50's which were made from 30's films.

On another note,,, I got really close to a very nice Win 62A the other day at my favorite gun shop.

The metal was all real nice and had probably been refinished, however the wood was pretty used up.

Definately needed new wood, but the metal was good enough to spend the money on wood.

Definately not worth $575. I will go back in a couple of weeks and try to negotiate it down to around $325, which is more like what it is worth.

Guess I forgot to say what I paid for this gun. Great wood and nice blueing. I got it for 300.
