Guys,

I just cast up a few hundred boolits with my new RCBS 44-250-K mold. The alloy I used is a 1/20 tin lead. It was mixed using 95% tin/5% antimony solder. I have quite a bunch of this alloy to use up. My primary use for this alloy was intended for 45 ACP & 38SP, but I decided to try some of it in my 44's.

My question is: What velocity can I run this alloy before problems might be encountered? Sloughing etc. They will be sized to .430 (correct fit in my 44's) and lubed with CR. Would this be best suited for light to mid range loads? I do have several hundred pounds of a harder alloy I can use if need be, but I have come to like softer alloys.

Thanks...Shooter

get some 2400 and do a ladder.
i'd bet that 20-1 will run into the 18-19 gr range just fine though.

I would guess around 1250fps, depending on powder. I get good results using 25-1 in my RBHB @ 1225fps using 2400.

Thanks...that's what I was hoping for...1000-1200fps.

I run AC wwts and even 8 BHN range scrap up to 1300 in .44 and (book numbers have
not chronoed .357) up to about 1500 fps in .357 mag with Keith designs, NRA 50-50 or
LBT soft blue in S&W and Rugers. Good accy (~2" at 50 yds, 1.25" at 25 yd) and no
leading.

1/20 was exactly the alloy used in the original development of the .44 Mag.

It will handle anything your revolver can stand.
