Sorry..........44 posts, newbie. I found this in my Dad's stuff. He used a RCBS Jr.2 and I'm not sure what it is for or if it is all here. Thanks again.

Could that be a Primer Pocket swager?

Yup, primer pocket swager would be my guess too.

Ok, he did a lot of 30.06 and it appears to fit that shell holder and case correctly. What am I doing when I "swage the primer pocket" and is it necessary whenever I start to load high caliber? I'm workin on my hand guns first. Not wanting to get into the 30.06 yet. But, when I do..................

Thanks for letting me know what it was gents.
Oh, and I guess each die is caliber specific? Or can I get other rods and heads for them?
One more, what case/caliber do you need to swage the primer pockets?
Thanks.

It's for military brass, which has crimped primers. You won't need it for commercial brass, or military match brass.

Yep, I clicked on the image to enlarge it, and it sure looks like a Herters' model perfect this and that primer pocket swager.

Sorry, I took some liberty with Herters as their ads are a kick to think back on, as everything was model perfect something or other.

The reality and the ads not always matching! [smilie=l:

Keep em coming!

If it is a primer pocket swager it was used to remove the crimp from military brass. Not needed with commercial brass or military brass after the first time.

I think it's a primer pocket swaging tool also.

It is a Herters primer pocket swager. I have a Dillon Super Swage, an RCBS kit, and the same Herters shown. I use the Herters more often than not.

Thanks guys. I posted at 10:04 and after 2 hours I found this where 2 years ago someone asked the same thing. Some would chastise me for not doing this before I asked the question. So to them I apologize, but I am full of dumb questions.

Russ,

Keep em coming!

That is part of what makes the forum interesting, and not always does a search give the info needed,

Somebody give you a bad time, they need to get a life.

On the other hand, if someone knows of the answer here or some where else, and gives us a link, well we all learn from that.
