I am going to try H322 under the 425 grain boolits that I cast from my group buy 460-425. I want to work up a load for accuracy from my Guide Gun.

I see that Ranch Dog suggests a max load of 48.7 for his TLC460-425-RF, while Marshall's go-to load is 50.0 for his 425 gr Beartooth Piledriver Jr.

I have 40 boolits sized and lubed, and getting ready to figure out a load step scheme. Any words of wisdom - perhaps forget the lowest and highest range for now?

Perhaps something like

45
45.5 5 rounds
46 5 rounds
46.5 5 rounds
47 5 rounds
47.5 5 rounds
48 5 rounds
48.5 5 rounds
49 5 rounds
50

i'd suggest a recoil pad for your shoulder.

Got one :-) fortunately my GG came with a factory installed Decelerator pad, which has worked well for the heavy loads. Also have a Past shoulder recoil pad which I've never used... may break it out for this though.

Killed 2 bears with 46 of H322 under a 420 gr plain base.
Like Run said, it comes back at bit. Makes big holes thru lots of bear though.

btroj, any leading with that load and a PB? What type of rifle - how was accuracy?

Funny thing is that although this make a good bear load, I'm looking for deer, and they mostly aren't that big here in Florida. However, I will also be using the same load for hog, although my buddy does fine with 240 and 310 boolits for them.

It would start to lead after 15 to 20 rounds and accuracy would deteriorate. For a hunting load that didn't bother me a bit, I wasn't going to shoot that many!
I used them in my Marlin 1895 and it gave me 2 to 3 inch groups at 100. Since the bears were going to be inside 50 yards most likely I considered that quite adequate accuracy.

I did shoot one deer with a 425 RD in the rifle, it was with a healthy dose of surplus 4895. Gross overkill. when I hunt deer with that gun now I use the same 420 gr PB but shoot it with 24 gr of 2400. Velocity is around 1300 to 1350 but I can shoot it quite well, it groups better, and I know that bullet will penetrate through about any deer I can see.

I just plain find the leases load more pleasant to shoot. Builds confidence in ones abilities.
