How do you do it, and does it prevent spring back? Notice some spring back on virtually all alum checks? They shoot well however as is!

It has to be done very carefully, as the annealing temperature is very near the melting temperature of aluminum. I've annealed aluminum strips for making gas checks in the flame of a propane torch, but it's not a scientific approach and produces mixed results.

Hope this helps.

Here is a sticky on annealing copper checks.

I used the info in the sticky to anneal aluminum checks that I made from some flashing that was left over from putting a new roof on my house.. I put the pipe nipple in my lead pot at 700 deg. for one hour and they came out very soft. I don't know if it will work on all aluminum flashing or not but it worked good on the stuff I had that had a lot of spring back..........Terry

I have used a black sharpie to put several lines on one side of my strips of aluminum, then heated from the other side of the strip with a propane torch until the black sharpie ink dis-appears. Then it is annealed. Go any longer than that and the aluminum will melt.
