I just got a mould from a MiHec GB for the 5.56. I have a Colt LE/Military AR chambered in the 5.56.
I really don't want to slug the barrel due to its small diameter. my question is what size sizer are you guys using that cast for the 5.56. I was thinking .225" My Lyman manual says .224".
I think .225" would be better.

What say you guys?

Off the top of my head, with NO experience casting for the .223, I would say that if it chambers, do .225. If it isn't reliable, size .224.

.227 with 225462 because that's what they drop at. .225 is pretty much standard though. Haven't cast any from my GB Mihec mould so I don't know what they drop at. If larger than .225 I will probably use my .228 sizer which actually sizes closer to .227 than .228.

i'm at 225 but so is my rcbs mold.
i don't get all worked up about being hugely oversized anyways.

I use a Lee .225 push through sizer for my sons 5.56 upper, never had any leading in it but YMMV.

.225" has worked great for me. .225" bullets still fit down my Wilson hand seater die. Which surprized me.

I've been wondering the same thing. Glad someone finally asked. I had read someone was using .224 but after reading this I think I'll go with the .225.

I've used the .225" with very good results in two or three different rifles . It even works when I'm not using gas checks as long as I keep the powder charge down reasonable .

I usually size .225 accross the board. A few rifles may like .224, and a few of mine like .226 a smidge better. One Highpower likes .228, another .230.

I have a Hornet that was chambered on a 22lr barrel that DEMANDS .224 if anything resembling a group is required.

If you are only planning on buying 1 sizing die right now, I would suggest .225.

I am in the .225 camp as well. Good place to start.

Have used .225 for years! However, recently acquired an old lyman push thru for 310 tool for .226. Works well, but is clumbsy, and ordered a .226 from Buckshot. Looking forward to getting it as soon as he finishes his vacation. Got a .267 from him not long ago, and it is just great.

I'm sizing my Lyman 225-415 to .225 which has worked well in my Ruger 180 model Mini 14 and my brother's Contender. Seating the little boolits was a challenge until I started putting a mild chamfer to the case mouth. No they seat smoothly and without shaving.

I recently started copper electroplating this boolit and sized them to .225 without gas checks. I have to take some test boolits to the range to see how they run. If they run without leading and reasonably accurate I might make a 65-70 grain plain based mold that I can plate to proper size. Frank

From the replys recieved, I believe that I will start out with a .225". I'll get Chris to build one for my Star.
