In a conversation with a friend, we were discussing 1911 clones. He mentioned a brand called ATI. Anybody here familiar with the brand and the quality of their handguns?

ATI is am importer, they are the official importer of the GSG .22 clone rifles and the .22 GSG 1911 (now also imported by SIG). Not so sure about the .45 stuff but it looks a lot like the Rock Island (Phillipine) .45's.

I had one of the Commander size ATI 1911's, they're decent enough but as always I set about replacing parts and upgrading the gun. I like to tinker with guns and 1911's are one of the fun ones to play with because there's so many parts available and they're generally not super expensive either.
Personally though, if you just want a 1911 that you can buy and not have to mess with I'd shop around for a Ruger SR1911 or a Springfield Armory Mil-Spec. Not that the ATI's are bad, they're just not going to be as good as something you could get for a couple hundred more. JMHO, YMMV.
