Anyone experience spring back of aluminum flashing for their gas checks. Seems to me , novice to this new aspect of reloading, that the thicker the material, the more this might enter into how well gas checks fit onto shanks.

Depends on the alloy of the aluminum. Amerimax makes two different aluminum flashing each with their own label color. The red labelled stuff will spring back and will not stay on your bullet even after sizing. The yellow labelled stuff is what you want. It will stay on. You also don't want the green labelled stuff, it is galvanized tin..

Yeah, aluminum does that. There is actually a formula for setback in the FAA maintenence manual to figure it out. I forget which part. Part 43 I think.

Do to spring back I have personaly made my checks out of thicker material. Take the .30 Caliber checks, 011 should work well. Pushing throught the Lee sizer springback check falls off. Moved up to .0147 no fall offs. Same with Lee 44 bullets. Small shanks some as small .397,will not size and hold .0147. Moved up to .0167 for everything above .375. Hornady checks are a good guideline to go by. They use .017 for everything but .22 .338 and .357 to name a few.

Agree with Sagebrush, thicker works better, .016 on 30's crimp on well. .014 from Bud Alum bottles works well also, but not quite as tight as the .016.

James's latest large caliber checks in 0.019 solved my issue with aluminum checks springing back after being sized. James (Sagebrush7) is extremely good to work with.
