I have figured out what I don't like about this rig, I like all three configurations, but have to choose one at a time.
I just got the 4" EWK barrel assembly in today, it's heavy, glad I didn't get the 6"!

BTW, here's a tip, use anti seize compound on both sets of threads.
I just got the pistol back from the gunsmiths monday, after having him machine out the barrel nut that was over tightened without using anti seize. $60 dollars plus a new barrel later, I will remember this expensive lesson. USE ANTI SEIZE!

I love my DW 22lr. It is like a trainer for my 357 magnum. They even use the same holster.

Gotta love the Dans. Here is a pic of my latest acquisition. .44mag with ported barrels. The Pac grips have been replaced with Hogues now.

Stick Man,

The ported barrel is a real pain to clean. It vents into the shroud and the entire I.D. of the shroud gets dirty. Brushes that size are large and hard to find.

After one session with the vented barrel I replace it with a plain barrel and never used the vented again.

Did not feel that it reduced recoil enough to mess with it.

My first revolver was a Dan Wesson .357 I have had it since I was around 21, It came with a hard case, a 2in 4in, 6in and an 8in barrels. Bought it used for $150. That is the one handgun I will never part with. Super accurate

That was a great deal you got there Mongo

Thanks guys. I also have this one's darker, smaller cousin in .357mag. I acquired it in a trade in 1993 for a S&W m-19. The DW came with 6" and 2.5" barrels. Have been thinking of picking up a 4" barrel for it to pack in the vehicles when traveling throughout the state.

Love my Dan Wesson .357 from the late 70's. I has the 6" vent heavy barrel. Only barrel I have for it. I have always been told to avoid over tightening the barrel nut and that has served me well. Never had it come loose. Kinda wish I could find a 41 mag to match. They would make a nice pair. enjoy Mike

I like the looks of the 4" EWK shroud. I have a 44mag pistol pak I bought in the late 70s one great shooting gun.
I am looking for a 4" vent heavy barrel and shroud to go with my 6" and 8".
I shot the vented barrels once with lead loads and it was almost impossible to get the shroud off the barrel, that was the last time I used the vented barrels.

the vented barells do really work.
you have to use the heavy loads and heavy bullets.
my 445 is actually more managable with 300 gr bullets screaming from the bbl than it is with a top end 245gr load.
the 22 is hard to tell apart from the 357 with light target loads in it.
recoil and point of impact is very similar at 25 yds.

gotta love those pachmeyers....
<--- always looking for D/W guns and stuff.
especially the "different" calibers like 25-20,45 colt,41 mag etc.

I just got my first Dan Wesson. It's a 44mag with the 8 inch ported barrel. It came with 2 grips. One square bottom and a round bottom with the finger grooves. Serial puts it around 1981-1983 production. It had never been shot, till I got it. It s now my favorite hand gun.

A big +1 on putting anti-seize on both sets of threads on the Dan's.

I lost a 6 inch stainless barrel back in the early 90's from not using anti-seize on the threads. Lesson learned, I will not be making that mistake again.

I have been using anti seize on the threads ever since, and have not had another problem.
(I use Loctite automotive brand anti-seize in the silver tube, tub, or packet for what its worth)

Here is my favorite little Dan Wesson 714 Barbie Doll revolver playing dress up with 2.5 inch, 4 inch, and 6 inch barrel assemblies. If you look really closely at the picture, you can just see some silver anti-seize compound on the barrel threads.

I have been trying out some optic combinations on the 714 with the 8 inch barrel assembly as well. Both a newfangled Red Dot sight, and a 4X scope. I am still trying to figure out which works best for me.

I still think the gun looks better without any funny looking tubes mounted on the top.

The 6" EWK shroud is a 'hoss' and very steady but I prefer my IMHSA shroud. Great pistols.

My Dan Wesson is a 744. I originally used it with an 8” heavy barrel for handgun silhouette. Later I got a light 6” barrel for it. It is the most accurate .44 I have.

Both Monson guns. The 44 is ported the 357 not. Haven't got a chance to shoot the 357 yet, it is a recent purchase. The .44 is the most accurate revolver I own. Much pleasent to shoot with 200 DEWC with 6.0 gr of bullseye.

I've noticed a common thread in these DW posts, people say their DW is the most accurate pistol they own. Not just in this thread, but in similar threads on gun boards all over the net. I just don't understand why these pistols aren't more popular than they are!

Does anyone have the new one yet? I'm curious if they have the same claim to accuracy fame as these old ones do.

I think the accuracy is due somewhat to the barrel arrangement. The outer tube is pulling the inner barrel straight. Even when they heat up the barrel is still under tension. The amount of torque the user can apply isn't great enough to cause thread crushing in the frame.

Many years ago I had a .44 DW, don't know what vintage but I bought it new. It was bull strong but compared to a S&W it had a horrible trigger pull. And I think they have had so many productin problems and ownership/branding changes over the years that they just never have seemed to hit mainstream. Just my opinion, I like 'me but don't have any anymore.

I finally had a chance to shoot the .357 and it's another tac driver. Unfortnatly when it heated up it started stringing shots. Felt the bbl and it was comming loose. As soon as I can find a bbl wrench worth the money and in stock the problem will be taken care of. Until then it will not be fired.

Ebner, I just got a new wrench from Brownells today. Its made out of steel and aluminum. Was about $24 I went to change the barrel last week and the plastic tool exploded in my hand, I guess the plastic dried out after 31 years, Having a heck of a time trying to get the barrel nut off, The 4' has been on the gun for about 10 years. Soakin the muzzle in WD40.

Eric over at EWK Arms sells a lot of hard to find Dan Wesson parts.

He also makes a slick replacement precision barrel wrench that's machined out of hardened alloy steel, (not plastic) with a hot blued finish - for most Dan Wesson Revolvers.

Easy on the wallet too, $23.00 before shipping.
