View Full Version : Forgive me, I've "sinned".

Broke down and bought 100 Hornady XTP's to load up some self defense ammo for my 45acp today. I've pretty much ran out of wheel weights and really wanted some jacked HP's to use for SD/HD since I think they might be a tad more effective then the cast TC's I've loaded for plinking. Anyway, guess I had a weak moment or something. :groner:

That is no sin, Now on the other hand I found a unopened box of Speer 200gr flying ashtray bullet would it be a sin to load them for anything other than self defense?

Nothing at all wrong with condom bullets, they have their place too, although I haven't fired but a handfull in several years and then only to "baseline" new or new-to-me rifles for accuracy.

Taint nuttin wrong with XTP's. I used to shoot the .312 100gr in my SKS for wallabies. NASTY results.

I did the same thing a couple months ago. For $22 bucks/100, I couldn't pass up! I'd rather not shoot cast for home defense, so these worked great. Accurate, too.

50 hail Mary's and sending the sinful things to me for proper disposal, and you will be wiped free of your sin. :bigsmyl2:

I still shoot a few now and then. I have thousands of them on hand, I probably ought to shoot more of them.

I dont think of that as wrong, I use the best round for the job. In many of my rifles cast is the very best because you can tailor it to the bore, but in some jacketed is better my 22-250 for instance. If jacketed gives you peace of mind you should use it, but I prefer lead, I live in a big city and dont want penetration.

I just couldn't see paying $18-$20 bucks per 20 rounds for Home Defense/Self Defense ammo when I've got 500 prepped 45acp cases just sitting around waiting for boolits/bullets. Figured this would be an easy way to get 100 rounds of HD/SD ammo on the cheap. I'm sure I'll be back to casting some TC's to load up soon as I buy(man, I hate that) some wheel weights.:bigsmyl2:

YOU CHEATING SON OF A GUN!!!!! Do your molds know about this?! That's it mister..... Your gun safe is going to lock itself shut and all your scopes will loose their settings. You wait till your 1911's lawyer hears about this. Just wait......

I still have some jacketed rounds on my shelf. I like to look at them and wonder what the heck I was thinking. And wonder why my parents didn't care enough to teach me better. Why, God.... Why?

And if you could see my Hihec 230 gr HP's fold a running pig with one shot, you would absolutely use em for SD/HD.

I am never going back to jacketed for any handgun round. And probably will only keep a couple rifles set for jacketed.

Have you thought of a boolit trap?

Nothing like re-using!

My j-words that I shoot into my trap get recycled as round ball. :castmine:

I've got a large plastic box with 200 lbs of play sand in it. It stops everything shot into it so I can easily recover the bullets. Only problem is when I go to the range to shoot but I did think about making up a sifting screen so I can mine the berm if there's no one else waiting to shoot. Probably get a lot of good lead out of it.
