I have an Old Model Blackhawk made in 1968.
I want to replace the grips with some originals for this gun.
Can anyone tell me what grips will fit it?
I have heard that the "new Models" are different & I've heard of XR3 frames.
So, will grips from a Super Blackhawk or Single Six fit or are they different too.
I would really appreciate any info

Grips from the Super Blackhawk will not fit. Single Six grips may fit, depending on the frame--the frame is more important than the caliber of the donor gun.

You'll need to look at your gripframe (with the grips removed) and see if it is marked XR3 (the original gripframe) or XR3RED frame. Once you know that, you'll just need to locate the corresponding grips.

Ok, thanks very much for that Coffeecup.
It says XR3-RED on the frame, so I am after a set of original grips to suit.

You're in luck--XR3 RED grips are the latter ones, and generally more-easy to find. Pretty much any grips from a New Model Blackhawk or Single-Six should fit.

Check www.rugerforum.com they come up regular over there. Or join and place a WTB ad in the classifieds section. Someone will come up with a set in a few minutes.

I bought a pair for my New Model 9mm/357 convertible a little while back. Just run a search for handgun grips. This is where I got mine:

I believe this is where Ruger gets there replacement grips from also. And the rosewood are cheaper then from Ruger.

OEM grips are all over eBay...

Pretty sure that the XRN-3RED grips will fit the older XR3-RED frames:

How well they fit is a **** shoot, as each frame is slightly different as cast...

One reason I make my own...
