I have a Smith 460 xvr that I am reloading for. Trail boss is great for light 460 loads. I use 45 grains of win 296 and a hornady 240 xtp mag and get a hot load at 1932 fps (minimum load for 296). I am working on mid loads with 5744.
My cast boolit is from an MP mold. It is a 270 SAA hollow point with the round pins, and is sized to .452". It is a plain base boolit. I use white label carnuaba red lube. The alloy should be WW, and it is air cooled on towels. I have not slugged this gun, and don't have experience doing so or the materials at this point.
My current loads with 5744:

The 270 cast load with 26.0 grains of 5744 is nice, but pretty soft. Possibly not hotter than my trail boss loads with the 270 cast. The 33 and 38 grain loads with the 240 sierra J words were nice and stout, but much easier on the shooter than my 296 load. I was considering pushing my cast boolit towards 1400 fps. Does anyone else have experience with this gun, powder, and cast boolits? Some say that speed is no problem others say to use a GC. It would be great to get a medium power load with my inexpensive cast boolits. This is all for range use. This gun is just for giggles after I shoot competitions with my XD limited gun in 9mm.
