I've aquired a Steyr Hahn pistol..and considering the price and availability of ammo...have suddenly developed an interest in reloading the cartridge!

Any suggestions on molds and loads?

I've used 356402 and the NEI truncated bullet. I size both .359".

For loads I used beginning 38 ACP data from an old Hornady manual.

Here are three of my starting loads with 356402 and an overall cartridge length of 33 mm.
Unique 5.0 gr, velocity 1049 fps
Bullseye 4.7 gr, velocity 1042 fps
HS-6 7.0 gr, velocity 1048 fps

I've read lots of comments about the 'robust" Steyr M1912 design. But, when I look at the locking lug engagement, it seems substantially smaller than the Colt M1911. I've never seen replacement mainsprings for sale. So, I'd work up loads that function reliably and wouldn't push it too hard,

Yes..I read all that about 'robust' too...I mean it all looks sturdy enough...however it's like 98 years old!

I used the 358-242 122 grain boolit over 4.5 grains of WW-231 in the one I had. I had to make brass from cut-off 223 casings, in those days the brass was virtually non-existent. The novelty quickly wore off and I sold mine with dies for 80 bucks back around 1979. That's one gun I've never regretted selling--even at a loss.

You can buy ammo these days..and it ain't real bad for price..however it's not real commen either..and mailordering ammo just adds to the price.

Personaly..I think Wal Mart should stock 9mm Steyr..
