Anyone loading the .300 BLk with lighter cast boolits running supersonic velocities?

I have several molds I intend to try but the one that I want to try the most is a Lee 130g RNGC. I'd like to work up a load that'll cycle and run between 1,500-1,800 FPS. Maybe more if leading is not a problem.
Sole purpose is target shooting at 50 yards.

Just curious what powder to start with.

Work with H110. Most of the loads for 130gr bullets will be ok to load with the Boolit as well for velocity.

I've had good luck with H110 at 16-16.5gr with that weight of a boolit in my 20" barrel with a carbine gas system.

I have and use H110 but I've read on more than one occasion that it is not a powder that is NOT tolerant of reduced charges.
Have you ever noticed that?

Thanks Bruce.

Not in 300 BLK, but I TRIED a reduced charge of it in 44 mag. One round went pfft and had to drive the round out of the barrel. The next went 'KKAAAAABBOOOOOOOOMMMMM!!!!!!!!' and thank GOD I was shooting a Ruger. The weapon literally tore it's self from my hands and almost dropped. I sent it to Ruger for inspection and told them what happened. A clean bill of health, but will NEVER try to light load 110 again.

I have been loading the lee 112-155 bullet for the SKS and AK rifles sized to .309. I tried the 112-160 tumble lube design, but it didn't work well because of the bearing surface. Currently I am using 17.6 grains of h110, but the gun will cycle between 16.5, and 18 grains. At 18.3 the primers would come out on occasion. I used 300 whisper data, and it put the 150 grain bullet max at 18 grains of h110. Seems pretty spot on to me!
Other bullets I have tried were 150 grain hornady soft points, 110 grain v-max, and 309-120 lee round nose gas checked. The 120 didn't feed well for me. I would like to see a long, pointy 115 to 130 grain bullet mold for this gun some day. The P-mags with the ribs filed down have worked best for cast bullets in the AR for me.

I don't see a Lee 130gr 30 cal in their catalog. Do you mean the 120gr.?

I have shot the Lee 113gr and the 120gr, along with the RCBS 30-150-SP. Use the Lyman 314299 sized to .310" alot. Have been playing with the new Lee 230gr also.
The light weight Lee boolits are ok, not very good for extended ranges. The RCBS 30-150-SP shoots well to about 150 yards. The Lyman 314299 does well out past 300 yards so far. The new Lee 230gr has problems I'm trying to work out. All the holes in the target from this boolit are elongated.

It's an older single cavity. 90365

Bruce,

The C309-130-R looks interesting, and might solve my problem of OAL with the 120. How has it been working for you?

Haven't shot any yet. The mold was dropping .307 and I've just now got it lapped open to .311.

I have high hopes.

I've shot the 170gr Lee with a healthy dose of W296/H110. Was certainly eye opening.

Ive been shooting alot of cast through mine since I got it all have been supersonic loads 150-200 gr bullets using fast powders(Lil Gun) up to 4895 All have functioned fine and all with acceptable accuracy. mines a 20" barrel with carbine gas Best load so far has been the RCBS 165 with 16.2 grs of Lil Gun ,10 rd groups are running in the 1.5" range at 100

I've been playing with the Lee 312-155 in my 300 blk bolt gun and it been great so far.

15.3gr of H110, boolits sized to .310 and loaded to 2.055 OAL runs about 1800 FPS and has produced ragged holes at 50 yards. The only thing I don't like about this load is the ES. I'm going to try 1680 next time out and see how that performs.

The Lee 150 gr cast GC is my target load. I run it with 16.5 gr of LIL'Gun at 1915 fps out of my CMMG 16 " Carbine. Tried the 113gr soup can but couldn't get it to feed nor work the action. I have Lee making me a 170gr PB mold as we speak. I have run the Lee 170 gr GC at just over 1800 fps.

I own a Lyman 311410 mold that drops a 130gr RN Plain-base boolit. Its actually a custom mold someone had Lyman build a long time ago as the other cavity in the mold is cut for a 311413 (169gr GC Spitzer). I got it for cheap on an EBay acution about 10 years ago before they went anti-gun.
