Some pics from my pigging trip the other week. 9 days of hawg hunting, we bagged 106 pigs and sundry vermin. This trip took place on a 250,000 acre sheep and cattle station in northern New South Wales. My Ruger 96/44 did the work for me.

Small pig hit with a .44 Lyman Devastator HP.

Small boar hit with the same pill. Check the entry hole in the bottom pic...

Great trip away, great weather and a few fish to be taken from the river - mostly carp but still fun to catch.

the devastator holds true to the title

It sure does. I recovered one this trip, textbook mushroom - the nose peels off and the base goes on. Air cooled clip on WW's @275gr @1650fps. I have great confidence in these boolits.

Arrhhh the memory's, long time since I've been up that way, getting to long in the tooth for those weekaway's.

Love the TT Yammie there, got one myself & still riding it, against all criticism. :bigsmyl2:

Great shots, both camera & guns. :-)

Yeah.... Good job! Kill em all!
Please dont leave any for me. I have all I can kill.
Great hunt and I hope yall do it again soon.
Good BBQ meat also!
Wish I could hunt 250,000 acres. That sounds like some great trigger time.

Thanks for the pic's! And thanks for adding to the fire under me in getting a little 96/44 as a ranch rifle and truck gun! Seems as though all bullets and boolits performed well (dead IS dead), did you come out with a clear "winner" or one you would prefer over the others?

Thanks. The Devastator lives up to its name and perhaps would only be out of place on real heavyweight pigs where you need to drive deeper. I think the the Lee flat nose would be better for the big fellas and drive deeper.

The pic with the assorted .44 ammo, does all of it feed reliably in your Ruger leverguns?

Yep. All slick and reliable. Only SWC's give issues.

Thanks for the reply! I normally am a solid or SP kinda guy, for all critters with .44/.45's but that Devistator seems to work beyond the normal range of a HP on bigger critters. I have a friend that owns a buffalo (Bison) ranch near me and has killed them with the Lyman slug with through and through broadside penetration, which seems like it would be tough for an HP to manage. The flat nose WFN's and their kin work on them as well, but the Lyman does alot more damage inside.

boy oh boy, can't wait to drill a hog or deer this winter with one of my cast LFN boolits!

Thats good to hear! I've kinda got an itch for a .44mag rifle here lately.

I'm so jealous of you guys that have pigs to shoot whenever you want.

I have a pile of boolits and loads I'm aching to try out on them. We just dont have any here.

We've talked about hitting the road and going to Texas for a couple weeks and see if we can find someone that wants some thinned out.:guntootsmiley:

Any advice for a 69 7/12 year old guy with heart trouble and SEVERE arthritis on motorcycle choice? My arthritis is so bad I can't walk back to the thickets were ol' Mossy Horns stays. A 4-wheeler is too big and too heavy for my needs. I figure I could use a handy limb and small block 'n' tackle and put a small motorcycle in and out of my pickup bed. I don't need a super heavy duty as my max round trip is maybe two miles.

Hi mate. The agricultural farm bikes work fine - mine is a Suzuki DR200. It has a low seat height so I can shoot from the saddle comfortably, they are built robust for farm use (the ones we get here are set up specifically for farm use with front and rear racks, bark busters, good bash plate, clutch lock and both kick and electric start).

There is enough suspension travel and clearance for all but the roughest terrain, and truth be told most of the time you are just poking around slowly anyhow.

Mine is this bike.

I think any of the lighter trail bikes will do just as good a job.

Junior,

I have no idea where to buy one anymore, but the Rokon is a heckava machine and will go anywhere. 2 wheel drive, will pull an un-imaginably large trailer. Not too tall - maybe even a little short by some standards. Had one years ago and still miss it today.

BobWell, Bob, you just gave me hours of wishing material. The "Hunter" model is perfect for me.
