I find myself currently buried under masses of lettuce, Swiss chard, spinach, beet and radish greens. So, I am eating lots of salad at the time.
I found myself short on dressing, and didn't want to make a trip to town for more. So, I did some Google foo, found the basic recipe, and added a bit of my own twist to it.
This recipe will pretty much fill a regular salad dressing bottle.

1 cup Mayonnaise

4 Tablespoons ketchup

2 Tablespoons White Vinegar

4 teaspoons sugar

4 teaspoons sweet pickle relish

2 teaspoons minced onion

1/4 teaspoon salt

3 garlic cloves

----------------------------------------------------------------------

Mix together, and use a small funnel to pour into the bottle. Let set a couple hours, to dissolve the sugar. Keep refrigerated.

If you have a garlic press, it makes it much easier to process the garlic. I also used it to do the onion, and made the relish from regular sweet pickles ran through it.

This comes out really good. Much better than store bought, to my taste, and much cheaper.

When I was 16 I worked at a Bonanza Stake House.

Had to make Thousand Island by the gallon

Your recipe looks very close.

Made French and Italian also.

I've made Ranch, too. Considering the prices in the store for the good stuff, or even the cheap stuff, for that matter, home made is a real quality and price bargain.

You can use a tomato sauce, ketchup is the easy way out! It's what was here at the time.

This is the recipe I have saved for Ranch.

1 cup mayonnaise (http://www.food.com/library/mayonnaise-159)
1 cup buttermilk (http://www.food.com/library/buttermilk-143) (dry buttermilk is fine) or 1 cup yogurt (http://www.food.com/library/yogurt-315) (dry buttermilk is fine)
2 teaspoons parsley (http://www.food.com/library/parsley-171)
1 teaspoon onion powder (http://www.food.com/library/onion-powder-502)
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (http://www.food.com/library/garlic-powder-501)
1/2 teaspoon salt (http://www.food.com/library/salt-359)
1 dash dill weed (http://www.food.com/library/dill-164)
1/8 teaspoon pepper (http://www.food.com/library/pepper-337)

Directions:

1
Get out a medium sized bowl.
2
Measure the mayonnaise into it.
3
Gradually whisk in the buttermilk or yogurt.
4
If you use powdered buttermilk, whisk in the powder first, and then slowly add a cup of water.
5
Then add the seasonings. Whisk again.
6
Or you can make it in the blender by putting everything into the blender and whirling until smooth.
7
The mixture will be a little thin, but it will thicken on standing. Store in a pint size jar, makes 2-cups.
8
Keep in the refrigerator for a few weeks. Tastes really good with yogurt by the way. This is my favorite way of making it. It tastes good with powdered buttermilk too, but the consistency is thinner than with yogurt.
9
Note: If desired, you may add a tablespoon of Parmesan Cheese and/or a tablespoon of lemon juice to the dressing in addition to the seasonings above.

You would have to do a search on that. It would be nice, if possible.

Try this:

2 1/2 ounces blue cheese
3 tablespoons buttermilk
3 tablespoons sour cream
2 tablespoons mayonnaise
1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
salt and freshly ground black pepper

Directions

Mash blue cheese and buttermilk together with a fork until mixture resembles large-curd cottage cheese. Stir in sour cream, mayonnaise, and garlic powder until well blended. Season to taste with salt and pepper.

I love Thousand Island on some fresh tomatoes, no salad needed.
