Any yall worked with the Lyman 410027 HBWC? I've only used it in a fast twist muzzleloader, a rebarrelled Great Plains Rifle. For the .41 mag I've usually stuck with the 410026 plain base for a wadcutter, it being a real rock'em & sock'em with a bunch of 296 and a nice plinker loaded deep with a little Unique.
Anybody tried the 410027 hollow base for target?

Gee... That is kind of a rare duck around here. I work with the 41 mag quite a bit as it is my daily carry on the tractor since my carpal tunnel surgery, but I dont think I have even ever seen that mold. could ya snap a pic or two? Many thanks.

I tried it years ago, but could never get it to shoot as well as the plain-based wadcutters. Looking back I suspect it was a combination of my casting technique (I don't think I cast them hot enough to get complete fill-out) and I might have had better results with different powders/lighter loads. I can dig out my loading notes if it would help.

Here 'tis.
Thought about having the nose broadened into a gas check base but couldn't bring myself to change the mold. Can't do it. Changing the nose would be the desecration of an art work.

Maybe an extra plug for a hollow point that would turn inside out like a dirty sock? Could make it so the mold would work better as a .41 minie as well. Make it work for both.

Thanks for the pic. I have never seen that one. I musta been thinking about another design.

So, do you think it would be possible to have a different base plug made for a gas check design? That way you could keep the mold origional and still work with different bases....

Yep. I have a .454 mold that Erik Ohlen did with interchangable plugs for plain base, gas check and hollow base. He did good.
