I have a 250 gr. Keith boolit but want to add to my collection for the special
I know that the 250 is about a perfect weight but was curious what other weights were popular in the special case
I have a bunch of heavier ones for my mag so going heavier isn't a problem :coffee:

never got past the 429421 and apparently the skeeter load.
didn't know it was his till way after i had worked it up.
i have all my 44 special brass loaded with it and have never seen a reason to try anything else.

The Lee 429-200RF has worked pretty well in several different .44 Specials of mine. Bullseye, Trail Boss and Unique worked fine, haven't tried anything else.

Also have a Saeco that casts a 200 gr truncated cone/plain base bullet. Works OK with same loads as the Lee, it's a better quality but far pricier mold.

Haven't tried any cast lighter than 200 gr in this caliber.

Ditto.

My favorite bullet since my first .44 before 1960.

Unless you just want to play around, you will never need another bullet.

Second the recommendation for the 200 grain Lee RNFP.

I load 44 spl, but never the Skeeter load. Prefer the Lyman 429215GC bullet over 5.0 Titegroup.

The lighter boolits shoot better in the older rugers that had short front sights!

Don't overlook a good round nose either for target/plinking work...Ray

Seems to me a good choice is the lightest bullet that will shoot well for you---I find that the Lee 214 SWC 90336 fits the bill. Works well in my Model 24, 29, & a Ruger SBHK, that has a taller front sight blade.

The Lee 200 RF and 7 gr unique.

I used that load and it is a good one...tried 6.0 Red Dot and found it better. Red Dot is much fluffier than Unique--fills up more of the case.

Have the Saeco 200 RNFP. It's endearing feature is the .320" meplat.
Also have some H&G 196gr full wad cutters and 44 Special cases that I have high hopes for but have been sitting on them for a year while I played with K frame S&W’s.
Would think the longer bullets would be more accurate but to be honest I can’t shoot well enough anymore to tell.

Recoil with the 200 grain bullet is far less than the 240’s when using the same or a little higher velocity target. Even over a fairly strong charge of AA#9 in 44 magnum they are tolerable to shoot and I consider the 240 gain bullets recoil over the big charges to be intolerable for any duration. Due to about six old injuries in my hand, wrist and elbow. But that’s the magnum not the Special.

900 fps with a 240 grain bullet is still a lot of recoil. Same velocity with a 200 grain bullet is a far more pleasant round to shoot and unless your varmint is pretty thick through the body you’ll not need the weight. 44-40 rifle used a 200 grain bullet at 1,200 fps.

I know a 240gr SWC at 940 fps will blast the guts right out of rattle snakes. Full wad cutters at 900 fps should make even larger messes. Plus leave nice big round holes in paper so I can see them at 25 yards.

I ran about 1/2 dozen through my .44 Special. The 429383, 429667, 429251, 429348, 429098 and the 429421. I have some 429215PB bullets loaded with the GC shank removed. I have to try them.

So far, the 429421HP over Unique has worked best for me hands down./beagle

Ive never owned a 44 special but ive owned alot of 44 mags over the years , i used to shoot a saeco #441 240 gr swc my first 44 mould in my early years but about 20 some years ago i purchased a Saeco #420- 200 gr tc and it has been my go to bullet since then for 99% of my shooting, from 800 to 1200 fps loaded in 44 mag cases .
I also have a Saeco # 944- 200 gr wc for bowling pins and a RCBS 240 SIL, I also had a Saeco #433- 300 gr fpgc but sold it !
