View Full Version : BHN and cooling time ?

This was range lead to start with . When I melted it down into ingots it was 50 degrees and the ingots tested 22 bhn and 15 bhn . I kept the ingots separated and casted the 22 bhn ingots 35 days ago into bullets . Which are still only 15 bhn . And I did the same with the 15 bhn and 35 days later they are at 12 bhn . Both bullet casting days the temperature was around 95 degrees . Any thoughts . Marvin

I find that bullets rarely test the same hardness as ingots.

BNH does vary with time. That is normal.

I don't think the 95 degree casting days has any effect on your BNH readings 35 days later.

an alloy cooling faster is how water dropping works.

True and I have thought that bullets normally would be harder than a ingot . That is why I asked . The bhn has not changed for 2 weeks . Marvin

These are air cooled . I see that it took about 60 days for the one test to cure . Might let them set a little longer and see what happen .Marvin
