Time to downsize and am checking to see what the value of a 1960ish rcbs A2 press is. I know at one time these were sought out as swage presses. Thanks Russ

FleaBay is your friend.

If you're not in a hurry, you can find some good deals there.

Or.... are you looking to sell yours?

The JR style presses are not the ones being used for swaging. It's the RockChucker presses we love.

I got mine for $90 and thought I'd gotten a good deal. I've seen them go as high as $140 or so at gun shows.

The A-2 RCBS presses were the quintessential combination reloading and bullet swaging presses in the late '50's and '60's. Heavy cast steel O-frame, compound linkage, large ram, replaceable solid extension ram for swaging; the whole enchilada back then. They were probably overengineered for their application, but I've never heard anyone complain:mrgreen:.

Most often they sell in the $175.00 to $225.00 range. If you buy one, make certain it has the bushing in the top to hold the die. Those are cast steel. Toward the end, they did away with the bushing and changed to cast iron.

I have a cast steel RCBS A2 and would not part with it.

Wow. Just found out I have an A2. Mine has the "dipped" handle but the smooth paint, not the wrinkle type. Bought it new in the 70's. No telling how long the shop had it.

On ebay $175 to $325 is the going rate. Most in the $200 to $240 range.

Does it look like the one pictured in post #4 http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?t=89400

The Rock Chuckers are stamped with a series number. Sometimes RC-A2's are confused as the 60's style A2's

The a A2 A3 have a larger ram also they tip back Excellent presses for swageing if you have a lathe to modify the ram for a punch holder and ejection system.
they are way over priced on flea bay.
a good Rockchocker or just about any O type press will probably do with a few modifications The 50 BMG press by rcbs looks like it might be a better choice due to it's larger throw and opening Hope this helps

In 1995 my wife and I were in a swap meet in Prescott Valley, Arizona. A man was selling some gun related gear, one of which was a reloading press and it was an RCBS . When I picked it up the man said you can have that for twelve dollars. At the time I had no idea what an A2 press was and I already had more presses than I needed and I didn't like the way the press slanted backwards anyway. I told the man that I would leave it for someone who really needed it. It wasn't until sometime later that I realized what an A2 press was and that I had passed on one for a lousy twelve bucks. To this day I have not seen another one for sale.
